I’ve been listening to this all through 2020 and even said a few days ago that this was one of my favorite Disney songs. I used to sing it constantly as a child. This has been my 2020 anthem to my friends struggling during the pandemic. I noticed any time I sing or hum it, my son will kick inside of me. Her passing was a shock and filled me with sadness, but then this song comes on and a flame of remembrance flickers and makes me smile.

This is arguably the best song from the film. It works on two levels: on the surface, Nora is singing to Paul that she still believes he's out there, and that she'll never give up on him. However, she is also singing to Pete that he doesn't have to keep running forever. Hence the lyric "Don't give up, you have somewhere to turn."

I saw Pete’s Dragon for numerous childhood birthday parties in 1977. I was 10 at the time and although the song in the film stopped the mayhem and crazy storyline of the rest of the movie, even at 10 years old we knew the song was special. It still holds up. RIP Helen Reddy.

This song was in a CD that my mom always played for us in the car when I was young.

It was not like she sang it for us or anything but weirdly, this is the song that always reminds me of her. I mean it’s funny because I‘m not even sure if she remembers this song at all.

This song just happened to be in that Disney CD of hers but whenever I listened to it, I used to think the lyrics matched her perfectly. The comfort, assurance, warmth and her steady gentle water-like flowing personality that gave me peace was so perfectly portrayed in the lyrics.

Although I rarely see her now that I‘m living abroad, this song still takes me back to those peaceful, joyful days of my childhood. I know I don‘t tell her this enough but I love her so much and am forever thankful.

We had the record album (Vinyl pre computers MBP players, smart phones). My children played that album so much. We might have even had a Pete's Dragon lunch box? Viewing the trailer for the release of a "new" Disney Pete's dragon looks entirely different kind of movie. Hoping to Capitalize on the nostalgia element from we older fans to come and see it. . (forgot the actors name) Mickey Rooney as Lampe It will always remind me of a time in life when my family was young. , I was a young wife, mother. It should have, but it was up against the horribly effusive "You Light Up My Life." In its time,, "You Light Up My Life" was THE song. Nowadays, people would be embarrassed to admit they ever liked that song, and rightly so. "Candle on the Water" might have lost to "You Light Up My Life," but I think it would win a popularity contest against "You Light Up My Life" TODAY, hands down.

I was kind of on the fence about the character of Nora in Pete's Dragon. Paul had been lost for over a year, yet she was still carrying the torch for him. There's being optimistic and then there's being "unrealistic," as her father Lampey put it in a horribly cruel moment. If you're going to still hold out for someone who vanished without a trace over a year ago, I'm going to start questioning your sanity. But then again, her father's a certifiable loon, much like Belle's dad in Beauty and the Beast. So, it wouldn't be hard to see where she gets it from.

But then again, Paul came back, so I guess she was right. Perhaps some intuition told her that he would come back.

Really? Lol How strange. I don't think a year would be long at all if someone just vanished. It's not like you know they're dead.. plus travel and communication time wasn't like it is now. I do know someone who's friend disappeared 6 years ago and they're still looking.. which yes I might agree is unrealistic.. but when they don't know what happened they just don't get that sense of closure or finality that you would with proof of death or something.

wow what a powerful metaphor this song is. I believe this song fits with the idea that a woman can clear a beautiful and concise plan in life for any man. my grandfather was a savage drunk untill he met his wife., and this song reminds me of his path. Amen and Rest in Peace Helen

Helen Reddy will always be a candle on the water. Such a great song from great times passed. Nobody can interpret the song like she did for the movie Pete's Dragon. Such sad news.

I used to play a disc containing many Disney songs when I was a kid this one on that particular album was one of my favorites. I still have the disc today, and thankfully it still works! I’m 30 years old now and I listen to it in my car from time to time

I saw this in the theatre as a boy with my red headed cousin named Pete. I remember he felt kinda like the star that day. This song was my favorite. Over 30 years have past and it still puts a lump in my throat.

Here in 2022. My grandson and I listen to a CD of Disney songs in the car, Candle on the Water is one of them. My (now adult) kids and I have never watched Pete's Dragon.
I was a teen in the 70s. I remember you, Helen Reddy. You were woman, and you roared. RIP.
