Stille Nacht
Helene Fischer Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht
Alles schläft, einsam wacht
Nur das traute hochheilige Paar
Holder Knabe im lockigen Haar
Schlaf in himmlischer Ruh
Schlaf in himmlischer Ruh

Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht
Hirten erst kundgemacht
Durch der Engel Halleluja
Tönt es laut von fern und nah
Christ, der Retter ist da
Christ, der Retter ist da

Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht
Gottes Sohn, oh, wie lacht
Lieb' aus deinem göttlichen Mund
Da uns schlägt die rettende Stund

Christ, in deiner Geburt
Christ, in deiner Geburt

Overall Meaning

The song "Stille Nacht," also known as "Silent Night," is a classic Christmas carol that originated in Austria in 1818. The song's opening lines, "Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht" (Silent night, holy night), set the tone for the piece's peaceful and reverent mood. The song evokes the image of a quiet, still night where everything is at rest, except for the holy couple and their newly born son, Jesus.

The first verse of the song describes the serene atmosphere of a silent night. The holy couple, Mary and Joseph, watches over their newborn son Jesus, who is described as a "Holder Knabe im lockigen Haar" (lovely boy with curly hair). The second verse speaks of how the news of Jesus' birth was first announced to the shepherds by the angels, who sang "Halleluja" to proclaim the arrival of the savior. The third and final verse mentions how Jesus' birth brought about salvation and divine love, with "Christ, in deiner Geburt" signifying the start of a new era.

Overall, the song "Stille Nacht" is a beautiful and calming reminder of the true meaning of Christmas, calling listeners to reflect on the birth of Jesus Christ and his significance for humanity.

This is absolutely the best version ever sung by anyone. Her voice is so gentle, smooth as silk, full of emotions but the other hand secret. That’s why I love her because she causes a very deep emotion within me. Helene if you read this: You’re awesome and so inspiring! Greetings from Poland

@TheStoryteller93

@Johnny Tuba dunno how to respond to this because I haven’t understood what have you written, just single words.

@SD Mrs. Fischer has a wonderful Voice, but she is not an interpreter of folk songs. She is a Pop Singer. Her lecture is too artificial she has no feeling for a folk song. See Rosa Mystica or Zillertal sound on you tube. Cheers Johnny Tuba

@Shock_Treatment

I still like the Julie Andrews version.

@Johnny Tuba ich hätte gerne dir zugehört wie du singst, ein Kritiker ist wie ein Eunuch, er weiß ganz genau wie es gehen soll, aber selbst kann er nicht.
