Excalibur
Helium Vola Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

At the end of the line
in a deserted land
the last one in the coal mine
the last one making his stand

„this might be your last chance“,
the man in the job-center said
gave him just a quick glance
from his eyes, those eyes he had seen
seen before....long ago....where had he seen these eyes?

Excalibur, the world is on fire
Excalibur, world in confusion
Excalibur, common desire
Excalibur, vainly illusion
Excalibur, waiting in seclusion
Excalibur, vainly illusion
Excalibur...
Excalibur...

Digging in darkness
a mighty scorcher
like lost in the deep
in his lonesome torture

Lost in a side corridor
night or day, he could’nt tell anymore
reaching for a hold
when he felt something cold,
something hard, maybe old, something strange and cold

Excalibur.......

and he dug in the mud with bare hands
and he felt those eyes on him still
and he heard invocations like in a trance
and the voices started to sing:
„We’re waiting for the order, all troops on stand by,
In the name of the exploiteds,
In the name of justice, in the name of freedom,
we’re ready to die!“
and he reached for the hilt...in one go... held it up...
and he touched the sky.....

Excalibur...

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Helium Vola's song Excalibur tell a story of a man who is the last person working in a coal mine in a deserted land. He is given a warning that this might be his last chance by the man in the job-center. The singer of the song starts to dig in darkness in a mighty scorcher, lost in deep lonesome torture. At this point, he feels and sees things that he has seen before, but they seem distant and vague in his memory.

The man finally reaches his goal when he discovers something strange and cold while digging in the mud with bare hands. As he touches it, he feels those eyes on him and hears invocations like in a trance. He hears the voices of people crying out for justice and freedom in the name of the exploited. The man takes up the Excalibur and holds it up to the sky.

The song has a strong message of fighting for justice in the face of oppression. The man in the song is the symbol of a hero who discovers the Excalibur and, by doing so, is ready to fight against injustice. The Excalibur is also a metaphor for standing up for what you believe in, even if it means fighting alone. The song gives hope in the face of despair and is a call to action, urging listeners to rise up and fight for their beliefs.

That sounds so much like a Deine Lakaien song. .. Which is great.

@TheRaven010

Can't have enough of this song. Can't wait for the new album. And "Für euch die ihr liebt" was fantastic, but this overwhelmed it big time.

@MariaCarabin

@speckgunther

ich freu mich auf das neue album. wie jeder hier

@rabautios

I think there well be a live Lakaien cover version :) The melody can be adapted easily for a baritone ... Veljanov ist not only a pop singer, he also did early music with Estampie.

Am 22. Februar ist es endlich soweit. Kanns kaum erwarten <3

Oh yes, I like the "peng" when the chorus starts. Anyway, I am beginning to like this song a lot. Yes, in the land of is very similar as far as the melody line and rhythym are concerned - at least I think so.

@OldwomanAsh

While I acknowledge a definite resemblance to the parallel Lakaien song "In the land of", I still find it hard to make my peace with the alienated bass of Joel Frederiksen. Probably it's just me, being a silly voice-person, I don't know. Although I still like this song, I really prefer the "almost-Lakaien version" of the theme, then done with Veljanov's vocals, of course.
