Eagle Fly Free
Helloween Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

People are in big confusion
They don't like their constitutions
Everyday they draw conclusions
And they're still prepared for war
Some can say what's ineffective
Some make up themselves attractive
Build up things they call protective
Well your life seems quite bizarre

In the sky a mighty eagle
Doesn't care 'bout what's illegal
On its wings the rainbow's light
It's flying to eternity

Eagle fly free
Let people see
Just make it your own way
Leave time behind
Follow the sign
Together we'll fly someday

Hey, we think so supersonic
And we make our bombs atomic
Or the better quite neutronic
But the poor don't see a dime
Nowadays the air's polluted
Ancient people persecuted
That's what mankind contributed
To create a better time

In the sky a mighty eagle
Doesn't care 'bout what's illegal
On its wings the rainbow's light
It's flying to eternity

Eagle fly free
Let people see
Just make it your own way
Leave time behind
Follow the sign
Together we'll fly someday

In the sky a mighty eagle
Doesn't care 'bout what's illegal
On its wings the rainbow's light
It's flying to eternity

Eagle fly free
Let people see
Just make it your own way
Leave time behind
Follow the sign
Together we'll fly someday

Together we'll fly someday
Forever we'll fly
Together we'll fly

Forever we'll fly someday oh oh oh

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Helloween's "Eagle Fly Free" are filled with layers of meaning that speak to issues of war, peace, and the human condition. The song begins by addressing the confusion that people experience, pointing out that they don't even like their own constitutions, yet they continue to draw conclusions and prepare for war. The lyrics suggest that this constant state of turmoil leads to a bizarre and unstable existence. The second verse delves into the issue of science and its impact on humanity. The things that science has produced, such as atomic bombs, have turned destructive and harmful for the poor.

At the heart of the song is the image of the mighty eagle that flies freely and doesn't care about what's legal or illegal. The eagle becomes a symbol of hope and the escape from the chaos that humans create for themselves. The rainbow light on the eagle's wings represents the beauty and transcendence that can come from flying above the fray, leaving behind the concerns of the world below. Through the uplifting refrain, the song encourages people to embrace this sense of freedom and follow their own paths. The ultimate message is that together, humanity can fly someday towards a brighter future.

Markus Grosskopf.... World's most underrated bassist... He is brilliant!!!!

@julianschernthaner4351

Absolutely agreed, his bassline in this song is extremely phenomenal, easily in the Top 5 (at the VERY least Top 7) metal performances, Top 3 if you only allow one entry per person.

Ingo's drumming on here is otherworldly, too. Especially considering riding the double-bass drum for 5 minutes straight wasn't cliché in those days and he plays fills and shuffles like a madman.

Then again, this song is probably the closest any band has ever managed to get "a musician's song" to be a fan favourite anyway (other than Metallica's Orion perhaps, but that's an instrumental track).

It's basically a bloody jam session gone sing-along and that's fucking genius in itself. All of them are talented like hell and they decided to show it on here.

One of the most beautiful power metal song of all the time. Underrated

@natoalvarez5762

Makes me cry

@Mysticum81

I'm not sure it's fair to say this song is underrated; I don't know any power metal fan who doesn't consider it one of the greatest tracks every recorded.

@msu-bd8od

Underrated? WTF.

@WocklessGamingforAnimeMoms

All the good Power Metal is underrated and all the bad shit gains traction sadly.

@WocklessGamingforAnimeMoms

@@Mysticum81 It's underrated if you're an American. Our idea of "Power Metal" even though we had great bands in the 80s is sadly DragonForce.
