Mirror Mirror
Helloween Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

My age you cannot me certain
This spell cannot be broken
Visions of eternal youth
We share one face together
Associates forever
Only you know the truth
Mirror mirror on the wall
Whose the master of them all?
Mirror Mirror split in two
Look at me, who are you?
I swim in my reflection
Mirror answer my question
Tell me what I want to hear
I see a perfect creature
Contracted human feature
I'll drown you with your vanity
Mirror Mirror on the wall
Whose the sickest of them all
Mirror Mirror split in two
Look at me - who are you?
No, my life is beautiful
I said, my life is beautiful
Mirror Mirror on the wall
Whose the sickest one of all
Mirror mirror split in two
Look at me - Who are you
Mirror Mirror on the wall
Whose the master of them all

Mirror Mirror split in two
Look at me - who are you?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Helloween's song "Mirror Mirror" are reflective of the human desire for eternal youth and beauty. The song begins with the singer expressing uncertainty about their age, and the desire for everlasting youth.

The idea of sharing one face together with the associates forever indicates a collective or societal pressure for youth and beauty. The singer questions the notion of the perfect self as they swim in their reflection, and implores the mirror to answer their question in the way they want to hear it. This is indicative of the struggle between self-acceptance and vanity, and the desire to be judged positively by others.

As the song progresses, the singer becomes more aggressive, suggesting that vanity is a contracted human feature and the mirror holds the truth. The reference to drowning the self with vanity reveals the danger in pursuing ephemeral beauty, as it can become an all-consuming obsession.

In the final refrain, the singer claims that their life is beautiful, but the repetition of the question "who are you?" and the reference to sickness suggest that the search for perfection can lead to a loss of identity and mental illness.

Overall, "Mirror Mirror" presents a cautionary tale about the dangers of vanity and the pursuit of everlasting youth, with the mirror symbolizing society's expectations and the pressure to conform.

A little poem inspired by this song:

mirror
mirror mirror on the wall
show the sins of us all
mirror mirror on the wall
how do I save me from my own fall?

mirror mirror will you reveal
how to break the enternal seal?
can i survive another day
without being the one to pay

mirror mirror make me cry
before i fall and like the others i die
man in the mirror change all there is
and lead me to this save place

mirror mirror i think its to late
I think i gave into my hate
can you save me one last time?
so the good can be forever mine

This song is seriously under-rated.... Yes, I know there are other videos for it, but they're not viewed lots either. But I like this one because it has the album cover ;D A shame Helloween never managed to kick it up that final notch, they're a great band. I'm not saying that they didn't manage to do anything, don't misunderstand me. They've made great albums and even gave birth to power metal itself!! It's just under-rated, and that's unfair.
