In The Meantime
Helmet Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Earth tone suits you
So give it a smile
If I could hold your feet down
Get to know for awhile

To make due is a promise
Hard to keep without help
Never taught to look in
I'm too concerned with my health

Help me spread right, ash is
Cow fertilized
Come down in a feed town
Strength to minimize
Hold it

In the meantime
In the meantime
In the meantime

In the meantime
The meantime

Overall Meaning

, I'll sport my Earth tone suit and smile, hoping to catch your attention. The lyrics touch upon the idea of making connections with others, and how difficult that can be when one is too self-involved. The singer seems to be searching for a deeper connection, as expressed in the line "If I could hold your feet down, get to know you for awhile," but is hindered by their own preoccupation with self-preservation. The line "to make due is a promise, hard to keep without help" speaks to the difficulty of navigating life's challenges alone. The singer is aware of their need for help, but unsure of how to ask for it.

The next verse references the natural world, with "ash" and "cow fertilized" suggesting agricultural imagery. The line "come down in a feed town, strength to minimize" could be interpreted as a desire to simplify life, to find strength in the basics. The final line "hold it" could be a plea to oneself or to the listener to pause and consider the deeper meaning behind the lyrics.

Overall, the lyrics of "In the Meantime" speak to the struggle of making authentic connections with others, while still maintaining one's own sense of self.

@APPEALtoFEAR

@@playstationskate345I completely understand what you're saying.

But if you consider the "30 year nostalgia" cycle to have any bearing on music , he may be right.

I think people are craving something real. That doesn't necessarily mean that people are craving alternative metal specifically.

Just that people are craving music that is genuine. Look what happened in the 90's when "Nevermind" released.

Phoney ass pop/hair/glam metal, etc. became uncool pretty much over night.

That's when genres like punk rock , pop-punk, "grunge" , death metal , hip-hop and gangster rap became popular (again).

Everyone's complimenting Page, but that drummer has got unbelievably good rhythm.

John Stanier is an absolute maniac

He's why I kept listening the first go round. I am a sucker for a tight rhythm section.

Reminds me of Pfyfe The first drummer with Therapy? Tight as the proverbial drum.
