The discography of Helmet boasts eight studio albums and two compilation albums. Following their initial release, "Strap It On" (1990), through Amphetamine Reptile, Helmet inked a deal with Interscope Records, leading to three albums under the label, notably the highly successful "Meantime" (1992). While their subsequent works, "Betty" (1994) and "Aftertaste" (1997), achieved considerable success, they fell short of matching the critical and popular acclaim garnered by "Meantime." After disbanding in 1998, Helmet regrouped in 2004 and has since presented four additional albums: "Size Matters" (2004), "Monochrome" (2006), "Seeing Eye Dog" (2010), and "Dead to the World" (2016). Currently, the band is actively engaged in the creation of their ninth studio album.

Getting closer to the primitive day
Intuition wherever it goes
The primitive day, the primitive way
Primitive feeling, primitive way
Getting closer to the primitive day
Follow the feeling wherever it goes
The lyrics to Helmet's song "Primitive" speak to a sense of returning to a raw, primal state of being. The repetition of the phrases "primitive feeling" and "primitive way" reinforce the idea that the singer is connecting with a primitive, instinctual part of themselves. The line "getting closer to the primitive day" suggests a progression towards this state, as if it is a destination to be reached. The use of the word "intuition" implies that this journey is not rational or logical, but instead guided by a deep, subconscious knowledge. Ultimately, the singer seems to be celebrating this return to a natural state of being, finding beauty and value in the primal.
The lyrics to "Primitive" may be interpreted in a number of ways, but they suggest a longing for a simpler, more authentic mode of existence. The repetition of the phrases "primitive feeling" and "primitive way" is evocative and memorable, creating a powerful sense of connection to something fundamental. In a society that often values intellectualism, logic, and rationality over intuition and feeling, the song's celebration of the primitive is refreshing and liberating.
