The discography of Helmet boasts eight studio albums and two compilation albums. Following their initial release, "Strap It On" (1990), through Amphetamine Reptile, Helmet inked a deal with Interscope Records, leading to three albums under the label, notably the highly successful "Meantime" (1992). While their subsequent works, "Betty" (1994) and "Aftertaste" (1997), achieved considerable success, they fell short of matching the critical and popular acclaim garnered by "Meantime." After disbanding in 1998, Helmet regrouped in 2004 and has since presented four additional albums: "Size Matters" (2004), "Monochrome" (2006), "Seeing Eye Dog" (2010), and "Dead to the World" (2016). Currently, the band is actively engaged in the creation of their ninth studio album.

Tongue-dried in the sun
Nervous speech and your mental health
Drunk on every detail
Loosened up from the moral slide as though
There's nothing to hide
It corresponds with your secret view and
I'd blame someone but I've got you
Like everyday that bores me
Sleep fine at night and
Wake up to my early speechless morning
It works like crime, adjust your view
Waste your time improving
She's cut so well and lifelike too
You'll bleed to death before me
The song "Speechless" by Helmet is a cryptic and enigmatic song about a situation that is not entirely explained. The first line "Indecisive and deaf or dumb" refers to someone who is hesitant and unsure, as well as unresponsive to others around them. The following line "Tongue-dried in the sun" suggests that this person is parched and possibly dehydrated due to their inability to speak or express themselves. The third line "Nervous speech and your mental health" implies that this person's inability to communicate may be due to an underlying mental health issue.
The next lines "Drunk on every detail" and "Loosened up from the moral slide" may suggest that this person is overly focused on the small things and is possibly struggling with addiction or other self-destructive behaviors. Additionally, the line "I'd blame someone but I've got you" suggests that the singer is holding this person responsible for their own struggles.
The final lines of the song "It works like crime, adjust your view / Waste your time improving / She's cut so well and lifelike too / You'll bleed to death before me" are dark and haunting. These lines suggest that the situation is not a healthy one and that it is causing harm to those involved. The phrase "She's cut so well and lifelike too" suggests that someone may be being controlled or manipulated in some way.
Overall, "Speechless" is a complex and multi-layered song with many possible interpretations.
