In 1964 very few had been to Torremolinos, let alone Tokyo. People today wouldn't believe how exotic it felt to hear this fantastic tune in the morning and, for a moment or two, to "be there". Sixty years later, it is still unequalled.

I could not agree more. Gorgeous Olympic theme. I was born in July 1964 so just three months old when the first Tokyo Olympics were held. Right now THOROUGHLY enjoying the second Tokyo Olympiad! The Japanese are unable to be in their various stadiums but at least they are able to enjoy the huge success of their national team on TV. Bless them.

Well said John…💕

I was six years old in 1964 and it’s a vivid childhood memory tune along with a great many other tracks my Mum shared via the radio in my formative years.
@kempini
I agree, I used to get up early in the morning just to hear this music.

Hi All. I was an American Air Force dependent living in the UK 1963-1966. I remember the 1964 Olympics because of this song! I enjoyed reading the comments you all left.
As info, I lived in what was then called Huntingdonshire, in the towns of St. Ives and Warboys. Was so blessed to do so, and appreciate you all in the UK, our great allies!
God Bless...

Seen this a bit late Ken , were you based at Alconbury ? .It's now decommisioned but worked there as a telephone engineer some 20 years ago , it seemed like living in the States !.Also finished up at Lakenheath & Mildenhall in nearby Suffolk, now retired in Cambridge.Know both Warboys and St Ives well .Best wishes and regards .

@@Roger.Coleman1949 Hi Roger. Thanks for the reply!
My Dad was in the US Air Force and we were stationed there for 3 years. Never could get base housing so lived off base as mentioned above. The US Air Force provided buses that went out in the nearby towns and picked up the children and brought into Alconbury. I actually went to school at an American school located in the old RAF Molesworth base. At that time, it was only used for base housing and for the American schools.
RE: Alconbury Air Base
So, is the based used by the RAF, or is it closed completely?
