Heltah Skeltah first appeared on Smif-N-Wessun's album Dah Shinin' in 1995, appearing on the tracks "Wontime (LP Version)", "Cession at da Doghillee (LP Version)" and "Let's Git It On". Later in 1995, they grouped up with fellow Boot Camp members O.G.C. to form The Fab 5 (another nod to The Beatles), and released a surprise hit single, "Leflaur Leflah Eshkoshka". Out of The Fab 5 members, Rock and Ruck received the most amount of attention, due to their notable charisma and chemistry. The duo released their anticipated debut Nocturnal in June 1996, which included "Leflah", as well as the singles "Operation Lock Down" and "Therapy". The album sold over 250,000 copies in the United States, and has become a classic in the underground hip hop scene because of its grimy, basement sound and strong lyrics.
The duo released a group album with the Boot Camp Clik in 1997, then followed in 1998 with their second effort Magnum Force. The album's lead single, "I Ain't Havin' That" (sampled from the A Tribe Called Quest track "Hot Sex"), became a Hot 100 hit. Despite the single's success, most critics slammed the album due to its lighter content. Ruck and Rock seemed disillusioned with their lack of sales, and split in 2000. Rock began having problems with Duck Down Records, and split with the label, signing to DJ Lethal's Lethal Records. He planned to release an album titled Planet Rock, but the label folded and the album disappeared. Sean Price stuck with the Boot Camp for their second group effort The Chosen Few in 2002.
Heltah Skeltah reunited in 2005, making appearances on Sean Price's solo album Monkey Barz and Smif-N-Wessun's Reloaded album. The duo continued work with the Boot Camp for their third group effort The Last Stand, released in July 2006. According to both members, they are also currently working on another Heltah Skeltah album, tentatively titled D.I.R.T., an acronym for Da Incredible Rap Team. Rock is also planning to release his solo debut, tentatively titled Monstah Music, sometime in 2007. In 2007, Heltah Skeltah will appear on Chinga Chang Records March 5th Release The "Official Joints" compilation, a collection of previously unreleased songs by NYC rappers.

Why, I tap jaws, rock black eyes
See I, know nothing about things I be doing
Lives I ruin, in this here shit we pursuing
My parabellum means swelling, cerebellum when we dwelling
The Caucasoids, you void, my niggaz rebellin'
Who in the hell ever, said you can dwell whether
What, you don't wanna battle me, battle me, that'll be
The day my whole posse rushes your monkey ass like Cato G
True warrior, conqueror, takin' flights, yo
Watch a nugget, I love it when niggaz on sight
Will all true warriors in the house say, "I"
Say, "I", if you not scared to die
You can look a nightmare square in the eye, say, "I"
Soldiers gone psyco, why?
I be your boot camp, veteran, faggots know better than
To test me, see I gets nasty like hedicin'
So who say, not me or Ruck gon' be Saddam
Boy, you moms should of warned you about a walking time bomb
I breaks arms and legs and straight up I bend that ass
So semi in that Henny, and we punk for me to bash 'em
Then ask Ruck, the irrational, here to bash a few
To, after who, you, whose your face to crack the brew
Then laugh at you, what's the, matter, dudes
Walking through my avenue, flappin' about
You wanna battle, dude, have a capitol
That'll do that ass a little justice
Don't fuck with the mothafuckin' Rock and the Ruckness
Will all true warriors in the house say, "I"
Say, "I", if you not scared to die
You can look a nightmare square in the eye, say, "I"
Soldiers gone psycho, why?
So all true warriors in the house say "I"
If you scared to die, then punk, don't reply
The year born copper, I sworn to devour
The injustice crush the ones who are cowards, so act like it can't happen
Act like the Originoo Gunn's don't be Clappin'
When the bitch ruckus reacting
I slap fools, relax with tools in my presence
'Cause that ain't shit, because your murder is the essence
So who wanna come test this champion sound?
Can't go underground, with the lyrics that pound
Profound is the way that I talk, plus
Muthafuckin' stoned is the way of my walk, what
Your jaw's up for grabs, beef, I'm bringin'
Swingin', right to left, side, gets wrecked
You think I'ma ass, money, don't hold ya breath
Let's, take this move, the dungeon to darkness
When guns bark, it's war for real, kid, don't start this
Rockness, Monsta, stomp ya, braids in
Never changing, forever face rearrangin'
Your gamin', the game, kid, you know that shit don't work
So bring ya game here and get ya stupid ass hurt
No under dirt, we won't lay that, don't say jack
I can get ya back sprayed, or ya face smacked
And my black Smif-N-Wessun, that'll show me foldin'
Now who want come and test the champion, boot camp'ion' soldier
Will all true warriors in the house say, "I"

Soldiers gone psycho, why?
Will all true warriors in the house say, "I"
Say, "I", if you not scared to die
You can look a nightmare square in the eye, say, "I"
Soldiers gone psycho, why?
The lyrics to Heltah Skeltah's song "Soldiers Gone Psycho" portrays the violent and ruthless nature of street life. The song depicts the idea that being a true warrior means having no fear of death and being willing to engage in physical battles to protect oneself and one's crew. The lyrics are filled with references to weaponry and violence, with lines such as "My parabellum means swelling, cerebellum when we dwelling" and "I breaks arms and legs and straight up I bend that ass." The song also discusses the idea of rebellion against authorities or those deemed "Caucasoids, you void," with lines such as "My niggaz rebellin'" and "You can look a nightmare square in the eye, say, 'I'."
The chorus repeats the phrase "Soldiers gone psycho, why?" which suggests that the violent tendencies of these warriors may come from various factors, such as the trauma of living in poverty or the allure of power and control. The lyrics also touch on themes of loyalty and brotherhood, with references to being a "boot camp veteran" and having a "posse" ready to rush in to protect one another. Overall, the song portrays a harsh and violent world where survival is only guaranteed through aggression and domination.
