Old New Bicycle
Helvetia Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You don't know
You don't know
What it is
So is so
So is so
It's coming low
It's coming low
Sounds say, Will you come
It's a dead end
And no bicycle
Old new
We all know
We all know
Where you live
How you live
It's so far from but

Shit as broke
Take it sound

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Helvetia's song "Old New Bicycle" contain elements of ambiguity and mystique. The repetition of the lines "You don't know" and "So is so" suggest that there may be a level of confusion or uncertainty in the situation being described. The phrase "It's coming low" could be interpreted as something ominous or foreboding, perhaps a warning or a sign of impending trouble.

The next lines describe sounds that ask the listener to come, possibly implying some sort of invitation or call to action. However, the subsequent phrase "It's a dead end" seems to undercut this possibility, indicating that there may not actually be a way forward or a solution to be found. The song title is then introduced in the line "And no bicycle/Old new," which seems to suggest that the absence or presence of this object is significant in some way.

The final lines of the song only deepen the sense of confusion and uncertainty, with the repeated phrase "We all know" juxtaposed against contradictory statements about where and how the subject of the song lives. The last line, "Take it sound," is cryptic and open to many possible interpretations.

It was 2010. I was 18 and homeless in Orange, CA. I had a Schwinn Continental 10 speed road bike, some clothes, and a Polaroid camera. I had an older friend named Manny Lopez. He lived in an apartment and I was crashing on his couch. He had one of the first Google smart phones and was always streaming music. This song came on and we both were instantly obsessed. Neither of us had heard of Helvetia. This song will forever be a favorite. Thank you Helvetia.

I saw these guys live and I thought the set was lacking, I had never heard them before, now Im listening to this like holy shit this is wonderful. They didnt play anything groovin like this

@cwingwvwc

They were pretty damned amazing when I saw them with Built To Spill a few months ago. Agreed, they didn't play anything like this. But Albertini can certainly wail on a guitar which he definitely did.
