i was at this concert when i was 14.9 years old, and it was an incredible event - words fail me to describe that night. i remember when jimi prefaced this piece with the "intermission/hotdog/popcorn" line, i was on the floor of the forum and when he said that, he grinned at the audience. oh man, his mega-amped stacked guitar sound was so loud during the other songs he played. how loud, you may ask? well, after it was over, as i was leaving with the other thousands of fans, my ears were literally ringing. i could only hear this high frequency tone which made spoken words sound garbled. my only thought was that if i were to go deaf, at least i got to hear hendrix twice and witnessed not only a musician, but a soulful artist who had the ability to transport you to another reality via sound.

i was also super fortunate to have seen him in september, 1968 at the hollywood bowl with my friend who had won tickets from the rock station 93 khj (BOSS ray-dee-oh!!!). what was even more outrageous was that he convinced his mom to drop us two 13 year olds off, as well as pick us up!!! also on the forum bill was cat mother & the all night news boys, and a group that hendrix personally liked called the chicago transit authority, who later became chicago. both sets consisted of the songs from their first album(s).

i will end this tale from my yesterday by telling you that i had purchased the original rubber dubber bootleg of this concert a year or two later, and had it for some twenty odd years before it was stolen from me. i managed to get another version of it, but the vibe just wasn't the same. but like most of us old timers say, hearing this on youtube really took me back to that time again.

Did your bootleg vinyl sound much better than this because 'official bootleg' released by Experience Hendrix suggests that this is the best quality they could find of this great performance? Or they would've released it on the main label alongside the other classic Jimi live concerts which we know and love.

I love music and heard some Hendrix as a child in the 90's, but it was only until several years ago, mid 2000's, that I really got into his music and discovered so much more than you'd hear on radio.
I don't know what it is but to say it's just beautiful. I know his music is associated with hippies, drugs but I don't use drugs and I swear after hearing his songs one day it was like the sunset was more beautiful. That might seem silly but it's true. The quality of this isn't excellent but it's enough and even it pulls me in and just feels beautiful if beauty can have feeling. It's warm and takes you for a ride. I'm 35 now and still love Hendrix.

I begged my dad to take me to this concert at the LA Forum. I was only 10 years old! We ended up right next door at Hollywood Park racetrack. Jimi was dead 5 months later on my dad's birthday 18 Sep 1970. He tried to make up for it by taking me to the movie premiere of Rainbow Bridge!

That intro sounds just like a Soleá ( a kind of Flamenco songs), it uses the same progresion (Andalusian progresion) and even the feeling is kinda gypsy... . Thats what happens with true Masters. Their music never stops surprising us. Thanks for coming from your galaxy to show how us how its done

Jimi Hendrix is, and forever will be, my go to music whenever I feel down. Like therapy music, I revisit Electricladyland often. He has this way that transcends the listener as if there was another world beyond this one and he held the keys to open the door. Truly an amazing performer.

Wow, your lucky to have been there, I spent many hours listening to this concert via the bootleg, one blue disc one red disc, the sound was abysmal but I loved it. Still have the discs. He was a total one off, I remember my first LP was are you experienced, I took it with me everywhere, all the others were playing their very ordinary basic blues, Eric Clapton etc, he was so beyond all that, and no one gives him credit for so many amazing songs, beautiful songs. To understand Jimis music is a gift

I was at the Forum show that Hendrix played exactly a year earlier in April '69, his last in LA with the original Experience line up. This show in '70 was a different creature entirely; by comparison it was very sedate and low energy, and showcases Jimi in his last phase when he had changed things up by adding Billy Cox and was playing mostly newer material instead of the early Experience classics. I had the “bootleg” LP of this concert, which badly degraded. In the 90s, I found this on cd at the World of Music, in Hamburg, Germany. My youth returned! This is one of the best - I only hope the Hendrix family can find the tape(s), digitally refine, and sell/preserve. Hendrix was/is and will always be in a league of his own…

I use to have this concert on an album as a bootleg from Rubber Dubber records. Had the greatest cover art I had ever seen. It was the Coca Cola script and said simply "Enjoy Jimi Hendrix" in the white writing on a red background..Beautiful. I unfortunately lost it...
