Zero
Henry Jackman Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I find it hard to say the things I want to say the most
Find a little bit of steady as I get close
Find a balance in the middle of the chaos
Send me low, send me high, send me never demigod
I remember walking in the cold of November
Hoping that I make it to the end of December
27 years and the end of my mind
But holding to the thought of another time
But looking to the ways at the ones before me
Looking for the path of the young and lonely
I don't want to hear about what to do
I don’t want to do it just to do it for you

Hello, hello
Let me tell you what it's like to be a zero, zero
Let me show you what it's like to always feel, feel
Like I’m empty and there's nothing really real, real
I'm looking for a way out
Hello, hello
Let me tell you what it's like to be a zero, zero
Let me show you what it's like to never feel, feel
Like I'm good enough for anything that's real, real
I'm looking for a way out

I find it hard to tell you how I want to run away
I understand it always makes you feel a certain way
I find a balance in the middle of the chaos
Send me up, send me down, send me never demigod
I remember walkin’ in the heat of the summer
Wide-eyed one with a mind full of wonder
27 years and I’ve nothing to show
Falling from the doves to the dark of the crow
Looking to the ways of the ones before me
Looking for the path of the young and lonely
I don't want to hear about what to do, no
I don’t want to do it just to do it for you

Hello, hello
Let me tell you what it's like to be a zero, zero
Let me show you what it's like to always feel, feel
Like I'm empty and there’s nothing really real, real
I'm looking for a way out
Hello, hello
Let me tell you what it's like to be a zero, zero
Let me show you what it's like to never feel, feel
Like I'm good enough for anything that's real, real
I'm looking for a way out

Let me tell you 'bout it, well let me tell you 'bout it
Maybe you're the same as me
Let me tell you 'bout it, well let me tell you 'bout it
They say the truth will set you free

Hello, hello
Let me tell you what it's like to be a zero, zero
Let me show you what it's like to always feel, feel
Like I'm empty and there's nothing really real, real
I'm looking for a way out
Hello, hello
Let me tell you what it's like to be a zero, zero
Let me show you what it's like to never feel, feel

Like I'm good enough for anything that's real, real
I'm looking for a way out

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Zero by Henry Jackman hint at feelings of loneliness, emptiness, and the search for identity. The vocalist explains how they find it hard to express themselves and try to maintain a balance among the chaos of emotions. They remember walking in the cold of November and hoping to make it to December, which could signify a difficult period in their life. The line "27 years and the end of my mind" could indicate either their age or the age of someone close to them. Regardless, it appears to be a painful memory.

The chorus of the song sends a message of despair and the constant search for a way out. The vocalist says that they want to tell the listener what it's like to be a zero and not feel like they're good enough for anything real. They are looking for an escape and want to show the listener what it feels like always to feel empty and have nothing to show for it.

In the second verse, the vocalist states that they find it hard to tell others how they want to run away. They also remembered walking in the heat of the summer, and with wide-eyes, they had a mind full of wonder. But, now after 27 years, they've fallen from the doves to the dark of the crow. The line "falling from the doves to the dark of the crow" could signify the loss of hope and joy in life. They are still looking for a path in life, one that might help them feel like they belong.

In conclusion, "Zero" by Henry Jackman is a poignant song. The lyrics depict the struggles of a person who feels lost and alone. The vocalist, through their words, seeks to reach out to those who might be feeling similar to them and to let them know that they're not alone.

Wow.
What a hidden gem.

I didnt really care for the movie, but this song means SO much to me on a personal level.

There are a lot of songs out there about pure happiness, like being with the one you love. On the other side of it, you got songs about depression and loneliness.

But life ISNT always just either saddening or joyous, theres a melancholic middle ground, and this song is IT.

Its about the stage in one's life where theyre not depressed but still feel useless and without fulfillment. You can have some friends and a game that you love to play, but eventually that game will get old and your friends will grow up with you. You want more, but youre so stuck in the same place, afraid to ever advance in life.

Thats what being a zero is like, and this song is so perfect at describing it

Maybe it’s just me but does anyone notice how this song connects more with the first Wreck it Ralph? Ralph was looking for a way out of his game and was a Zero. In Ralph breaks the internet, he leaves vanellope and and wonders when he will be able to do it again with her, connecting to the song by Owl City which was made for the first film!
