Growing up, in the 60's and 70's I listened as my parents played Mancini's music. They were big fans of his. I am still grateful to this day that they introduced me to his beautiful music and arrangements. This is one of many favorites from his brilliant works.

Brings back very special sentimental memories. As a young boy in the early 70s I was hometaping music from AFN Frankfurt still by microphone. On this song, my canary bird was singing which I was not very happy about at the time. Later, the bird flew away through an open window. It's half a century ago, but through this tape I can still hear him sing.

I love this rendition. I can see myself playing this on piano with great emotion. I know I would have ruined my eye makeup by the end when I was done... crying like my heart's been broken. But it would be deceiving because the tears would be due to the emotional tone of the music. Absolutely beautiful! That is why people cry upon hearing a melody such as this. It is the composure of feeling.

I learned to play it on mine but ear, I also taught my young Nieces and Nephews how to play it and they just love it, I haven't played in over 10 years, just wasn't interested anymore but here lately I've become re- interested again and have started back up, I've always played by ear, had a few lessons but didn't like it so now I'm back into it and loving it, so very peaceful and relaxing, told my Nieces and Nephews whom I've taught and now I'm hearing well alright now Aunt Vera, will be right over, Lol , oh well so very happy that they are still just as interested as starting up again as I am

The film should have won Academy awards for a best supporting actor,( John McEnery) actress(Pat Heywood) , direction and of course best film. I saw it the very next day after the Royal Premiere at Odeon Leicester Square and I went back three times with different friends The film has never left me.What a pretty couple - to choose Whiting and Hussey was a masterstroke; he so handsome and she so young and innocent. Despite the flaws, mistakes and omissions it will always be the very best film version of the tragic story. Franco Zeffirelli was always the master of cinematography ( he did win for that). Luciano Pavarotti sung a beautiful version called Al Giochi Addio . I don’t like the Mancini version it lacks depth.

I heard this unexpectedly on the radio today, and i could even play it on the piano, at one time, and I wanted to hear it again. It's so beautiful, so soft and so tender. Mancini always knew what he was doing. Thanks for sharing this beautiful song with us!

I clicked on this video thinking it was going to be trivial and cheesy. 30 seconds in...I started feeling what I felt when I fell in love with the most amazing girl in the world. I felt as though it was only me and her running through the world together, and nothing else mattered. Then I started to feel the horrible pain that associated with my unrequited love for this women. I felt like my world was falling apart, and life was just not worth living anymore. I cried by the end.

How do you listen to this piece without asking for a Kleenex? I remember hearing it for the first time when Merv Griffin played it on the Tonight Show in the summer of '68 or '69. Such a simple but emotionally penetrating theme.

I listened to this a lot when it first came out and for a few years after if it were on the radio. So, putting it together, the last time I heard this was 1972. Oh my God. I saw it in the theater twice because it was not just the movie but this music. R.I.P. Mr. Mancini. Thank you for these treasures you gave to everyone to enjoy. P.S. This song is actually pretty much everywhere! It is indeed a very beautiful song. I tried playing it on my piano ( 'tis a virtual piano...) but it still didn't sound as nice. I really love this song, and so does my father. When I first heard it I immediately thought it sounded kind of like a little tune I heard in a Ghibli film called Spirited Away. The little tune in Princess Mononoke and in the Hunger Games... which found out from the comments below like five minutes ago.

this piece of music is the very symbol of love , its the most beautiful composition in the world, if you lay back and close your eyes you can feel it deep in your heart. I had this played to me at the birth of my baby girl and will be walking down the aisle to this on my wedding day next year. i think you obviously have never felt love before deep true love anyway cause if you had you comment would be a beautiful one and not the bitter one you posted.

The Romeo and Juliet music was originally created by the great Italian musician Nino Rota for the movie "Romeo and Juliet" in the 60's. This one is the rearrangement of Nino's music by Henry Mancinic. Nino Rota also composed most of the music for the great Federico Fellini's movies, the Italian filmmaker and script writer. Together they were enigmatic. Nino Rota was also the one who composed the music for the movie "The Godfather" the original one in the early 70's. Nino died in 1979. Fellini once said that after Nino died he felt lost in a world without music.
The only love music I've ever loved is this one.

I think the version by Nino Rota was like 80th on the Billboards in 1968. Henri Mancini wrote this arrangement in 1969 and his version went to #1 :-)
