Great thing how music can spark a memory. My dad passed this January at 88 one day after my birthday. He had a helluva run. I remember waking up to this, Ray Charles and Tom Jones blasting out of the console stereo on Saturday mornings when my parents were doing weekend stuff around the house. @Doug Durrum Doug, sounds like we have a lot in common. Several years ago at a flea market I purchased a box of Popular Mechanix and Popular Science magazines from the 1940's to the 60's. I never looked at them until a couple of weeks ago. They are 250 to 300 pages each of everything anyone would want to know ! I retired several years ago at 60 and thinking about my dad got me interested in vintage tube radios. After collecting several and slowly figuring out how to repair them I started listening to short wave and the am ham operators. This led me to buying a 1955 vintage transmitter and a 1943 receiver and getting my amature radio license and getting on the air. Funny where early memories can lead you in life. Dad's old stereo I believe was a Knight kit and he built the receiver, turntable, cabinet and speaker boxes. This was a project he worked on in the evenings and I was always there to see what piece went where next. It really did sound great and when he passed away my sister became the proud owner along with the old records. Yep great memories for sure !

The stereo your dad built wouldn't have been a Heathkit by chance would it ? My dad bought one from Tandy Company around 1967 or '68. He stayed up for nights studying the schematics before putting it together. He passed away 23 years ago and I had to stop my mom from selling it in yard sale. Unfortunately it got ruined 4 years ago when my basement flooded.

My friends and I had just graduated from high school, and the Tijuana Brass was playing in Boston. All five of us went to see them. Being nice Catholic girls from an all girl high school, we walked nicely up the aisles to get some pictures. Security started to turn us away, noticed our polite manners, and said, "it's okay. You girls can come up." We got our pictures and returned, politely, to our seats, after thanking the guards, of course! In those days, being polite was the way to go! Thank you, Herb, and the security guards. We had a great time! You were my very first concert!

I was at Goshen boy scout camp in 1967 the second year it was open. One of the camp counselors would play this some nights around nine or so before lights out and we could hear it in our dispersed campsites. it was magical and obviously I've never forgotten that.

Truly a treasure of memories. Herb Albert presented a crisp sound that America was evolving into a shift of a new decade. I knew I was hearing a sound we were all needing, but we're yet to experience. I was just upon 12 and we had the 78 album. How the cover of a whipped cream woman was selected as the jacket is still a mystery, today? The 60s was rich in breaking through all sorts of barriers. I felt we were all going somewhere but not knowing where we were to land. Thank you Herb Albert. Great sound still! Ole!🌹

One of the first songs I remember hearing at age 2 or 3. I'm 59 now and still remember. My dad had a reel to reel tape deck in the living room that got plenty of use on the weekends. Johnny Cash, Chuck Berry and Patsy Cline were stuck in my brain too. Such great music was my earliest memories.

I was in a nightclub in Ensinada and there was a big band with a brass section playing to the crowd when I asked the Mexican bandleader if they would play a request. He said no. I said," you'll play this one". I whispered it in his ear, he smiled broadly, struck up the band and when that rolled the drums and the trumpet solo started, the crowd immediately recognized it and and went nuts.

1967, my older sister was in high school "junior miss" contest. she was all county 1st chair trumpet, she played this for the talent part of the contest, practiced it a lot, i heard it over and over again... still love hearing it...

I played the trumpet for many years, growing up in the 60s and early 70s. I tried very hard to mimic the sound of Herb Alpert with so many of his great songs.

My father-in-law turns 90 in December and he played the trombone and trumpet while in the Marines in Korea. He could play The Lonely Bull until he was 85 when he “lost his lip” as he put it.

Herb went to a bullfight in Mexico at a young age and heard a Mariachi band. That was the spark that kindled the flame that inspired Herb. A genius is a person that can see something no one else can see...aim at it and hit it. Such as Herb Alpert. Thanks for the beautiful songs that gave us great joy and pleasure..and thanks for the Carpenters 😎

I grew up listening to this album. My folks had speakers in the ceiling back in 1967. I have the original vinyl album. Love the memories

I like that Mexican Mariachi touch Herb has when playing tunes as this one. A real master of the trumpet he can play anything well and also he can sing! I used to hear this tune about fifty years ago and still like it.

My great niece took up a trumpet 🎺 and won first chair in her school orchestra. I cited Herb & Al as inspirations. This piece, I warned her DON'T let her younger (and deeply sensitive) sis hear it. It made ME cry back when, and I know it would 💔 break her little heart.
