F.M.,my Dad didn't have a musical talent.But he had good common sense.And he was a great provider, with good work ethics! I used to battle with him constantly! My dad passed away 2 years ago but I heard this the other day and was blown away. Literally unlocked a memory I didn't think I had and flash back to when I was a kid and he would be playing this music. This music would first come out when he was 11. Great thing how music can spark a memory. My dad passed this January at 88 one day after my birthday. He had a helluva run. I remember waking up to this, Ray Charles and Tom Jones blasting out of the console stereo on Saturday mornings when my parents were doing weekend stuff around the house. Good memories of great times.

@Doug Durrum Doug, sounds like we have a lot in common. Several years ago at a flea market I purchased a box of Popular Mechanix and Popular Science magazines from the 1940's to the 60's. I never looked at them until a couple of weeks ago. They are 250 to 300 pages each of everything anyone would want to know ! I retired several years ago at 60 and thinking about my dad got me interested in vintage tube radios. After collecting several and slowly figuring out how to repair them I started listening to short wave and the am ham operators. This led me to buying a 1955 vintage transmitter and a 1943 receiver and getting my amature radio license and getting on the air. Funny where early memories can lead you in life. Dad's old stereo I believe was a Knight kit and he built the receiver, turntable, cabinet and speaker boxes. This was a project he worked on in the evenings and I was always there to see what piece went where next. It really did sound great and when he passed away my sister became the proud owner along with the old records. Yep great memories for sure !

The stereo your dad built wouldn't have been a Heathkit by chance would it ? My dad bought one from Tandy Company around 1967 or '68. He stayed up for nights studying the schematics before putting it together. He passed away 23 years ago and I had to stop my mom from selling it in yard sale. Unfortunately it got ruined 4 years ago when my basement flooded.

My friends and I had just graduated from high school, and the Tijuana Brass was playing in Boston. All five of us went to see them. Being nice Catholic girls from an all girl high school, we walked nicely up the aisles to get some pictures. Security started to turn us away, noticed our polite manners, and said, "it's okay. You girls can come up." We got our pictures and returned, politely, to our seats, after thanking the guards, of course! In those days, being polite was the way to go! Thank you, Herb, and the security guards. We had a great time! You were my very first concert!

Growin up in the sixties in Chicago, great radio stations. My old man turned me on to this and the big band sounds. Older sisters introduced me to the Beatles, Cream, Grateful Dead, Steppenwolf, Grand Funk, Hendrix. Mom was an Alabama girl who introduced me to all that good Hillbilly music on WJJD. Great music and memories gone but not forgotten.

I was at Goshen boy scout camp in 1967 the second year it was open. One of the camp counselors would play this some nights around nine or so before lights out and we could hear it in our dispersed campsites. it was magical and obviously I've never forgotten that.

Remember for a while when 6-7, when Beatles came out, my dad wouldn't let me listen to them, but went by record store at Base BX, and got by brother and I ,The Lonely Bull, and a couple more. Didn't have any other type music to listen to untill 9 and older when my brother as able to talk him into getting Rock and Roll. I am so happy now, that I was given Herb Albert records, Now they bring back so many GOOD memorys. I became a lover of Herb Albert & TJB by 8yrs old. I didn't like them that much back then but all I had to listen to, other than kids records, now I still love his original records, may still have some in storage.!!!!!

My dad took us kids to a real bull fight in Juarez when I was young. I felt so sorry for the bull. They stuck spears in in to weaken him before the Matador fought him. When the bull sat on the matador I cheered!! Lol

When I hear this music I think back many years ago when I went to Tijuana Mexico and saw the world famous bullfighter Carlos Arruza and with his superb horsemanship fight a bull from horseback. It was very exciting but I felt sorry for the galant bull and that was my first and last bullfight😢

I raised bulls and they were so gentle and we rode them. But, we did not weigh much or hurt them. The animals are so conscious and have empathy. teach us to be humane. Practice everyday to make humane choices and be kind. They were just big sweet puppies. I love this music.

My parents told me the story of how they bought an entire stereo, tv, console because this song and album was playing. They had that console way into my adulthood. Such wonderful memories after all these years hearing the song on the radio. I'm so sorry for your loss. 😢 My dad played this and many other other Herb Alpert tunes on his horn when I was growing up. He died New Year's Eve 2014. Fantastic memories..... ❤️ You tube is great for being able to access music like this to bring them all back.

One of my dads favorite songs. He was always making cracks about the music and the bull not being lonely anymore. He would have been 79. I miss him. I could actually play this way back in the 70's. After high school, I never played again.

I was a freshman in high school when this song first came out. Brings back a lot of good memories of those times. I've always been a fan of Herb Alpert and his music through the years. 'This Guy's In Love With You' was one of my favorites too.

This was our ships theme song, "bull Durham" when we would break the lines away from another ship after refueling and food out at sea. You would hear this play over the entire ships speakers. USS Durham LKA 114 i s now at the bottom of the ocean of the coast of hawaii. They sunk in in 2020.

Truly a treasure of memories. Herb Albert presented a crisp sound that America was evolving into a shift of a new decade. I knew I was hearing a sound we were all needing, but we're yet to experience. I was just upon 12 and we had the 78 album. How the cover of a whipped cream woman was selected as the jacket is still a mystery, today? The 60s was rich in breaking through all sorts of barriers. I felt we were all going somewhere but not knowing where we were to land. Thank you Herb Albert. Great sound still! Ole!🌹

This song reminds me of my dad. He was a bullfighter in Mexico. He died in the ring, then we moved to the states to live with my aunt. I miss him, he owed me $20.

I like that Mexican Mariachi touch Herb has when playing tunes as this one. A real master of the trumpet he can play anything well and also he can sing! I used to hear this tune about fifty years ago and still like it.

One of the first songs I remember hearing at age 2 or 3. I'm 59 now and still remember. My dad had a reel to reel tape deck in the living room that got plenty of use on the weekends. Johnny Cash, Chuck Berry and Patsy Cline were stuck in my brain too. Such great music was my earliest memories.

My father-in-law turns 90 in December and he played the trombone and trumpet while in the Marines in Korea. He could play The Lonely Bull until he was 85 when he “lost his lip” as he put it.

One of my favorites ever since I first heard it when it was released. I was sixteen then and liked to hear the cool sound of this tune. Not only the instruments are very well played with high skill but the tune is excellent and still good to hear 56 years later.

Brings me back as my mom use to tell me stories about everyone in the family suffering hard times and good times ,striving to live ,to put food on the table ..I'm listening to this song going through family pictures when they were all young including my mom 🤗👵
Now nearly all of them are no longer with us, mom passed March- 19- 2018..now all I have is memories to cherish for as long as I live❣Rest In Heaven. I love you and I miss you mom ✞

I was in a nightclub in Ensinada and there was a big band with a brass section playing to the crowd when I asked the Mexican bandleader if they would play a request. He said no. I said," you'll play this one". I whispered it in his ear, he smiled broadly, struck up the band and when that rolled the drums and the trumpet solo started, the crowd immediately recognized it and and went nuts.

Had a hankerin’ for some Herb Alpert so I came here today. Those beautiful, bold but smooth notes, with the mandolin and the light-rock drum sounds of the great Hal Blaine. This sounds as perfect as it did when my dad and I sat around listening to it in the 60s. So melodic and gorgeous.

Herb went to a bullfight in Mexico at a young age and heard a Mariachi band. That was the spark that kindled the flame that inspired Herb. A genius is a person that can see something no one else can see...aim at it and hit it. Such as Herb Alpert. Thanks for the beautiful songs that gave us great joy and pleasure..and thanks for the Carpenters 😎
