Herbie Mann was born in Brooklyn, New York. Early in his career, he played saxophone and clarinet, but Mann was among the first jazz musicians to specialize on the flute and was perhaps jazz music's preminent flautist during the 1960s.
Mann was quite prolific and performed often. His first gig was playing in the Catskills at age 15. His last, on May 3, 2003 was at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival at age 73. Herbie Mann died at age 73 on July 1, 2003 of prostate cancer.

In Herbie Mann's song Voce E Eu, translated as "You and Me," the lyrics describe the singer's attitude towards the opinions and actions of others. The song starts off by claiming that others can call and plead with him, speak ill of him, or even throw parties under the moonlight, but he will not attend. The chorus repeats the idea that others can spread rumors about him, saying that he is tired of living and it is a shame for those who knew him. However, the singer asserts that he is more interested in the relationship between "you and me," rather than the judgments of others.
Overall, the lyrics seem to express a sense of indifference towards the opinions of outsiders and a certain level of contentment in the singer's personal connections. This message could be seen as a call to focus on relationships that matter and ignore the noise and distractions of the outside world.

Muchas gracias!
