Here Be Dragons have supported many of the top names in World/folk music - The Young Dubliners (USA/Ireland), Carlos Nuñes (Spain), The Oysterband (England), Flook (Ireland) and Yo Yo Mundi (Italy). They have appeared on television in Wales, internationally on cable and enjoyed radio support across Europe as well as in Australia and the USA.
With their live show, you don’t so much introduce Here Be Dragons, as unleash them. They leap onto the stage. Mike Brooks, wild front man and lead singer also extremely accomplished on banjo, guitar, mandolin clad in a kilt bearing the Welsh national flag Will Morrison the drummer keeps the band firing on all cylinders, Stepan Pasicznyk (Formally of “The Ukrainians”) does magic on accordion, Cath Watkins sings and plays fiddle like the devil with such apparent ease, and Kyle Jones plays bass, guitar and vocals.
Here Be Dragons try to be true to their culture and heritage, not as a museum exhibit but in a way that’s a more honest reflection of what it means to be Welsh in the twenty-first century, whilst still respecting their Celtic roots. Using acoustic instruments like banjos, mandolins, fiddles and accordions alongside drums and electric bass in a way that’s far from most people’s idea of a Celtic folk-rock band; the emphasis is much more on the rock style of presentation. They sing in both Welsh and English and play mainly original songs but also include a couple of traditional ones like ‘Sosban Fach,’ and interpret them with all the power they deserve.

Goodnight Cariad
Here Be Dragons Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'm fading fast and I've had a few
Just one last kiss and I'll say goodnight
Nos da cariad, I'll dream of you
I can't deny that I've been drinking
A little whisky and beer
I've got a little sentimental
But now the night is nearly over
It's closing time
I feel a little unsteady
Put your hand in mine
Put me to bed turn out the light
I'm fading fast and I've had a few
Just one last kiss and I'll say goodnight
Nos da cariad, I'll dream of you
I can't deny that it affects me
Singing the old songs
I think back to where I came from
And wonder where I belong
But wherever I may stagger
Near or far
They say home is where the heart is
It's where ever you are
I know whenever I've been drinking
And I start to unwind
I feel my tongue getting looser
I say whatever is on my mind
So don't believe me in the morning
If I say it was the drink
When tonight I say""I love you""
That's what I really think
Put me to bed turn out the light
I'm fading fast and I've had a few
Just one last kiss and I'll say goodnight
Nos da cariad, I'll dream of you
Put me to bed turn out the light
I'm fading fast and I've had a few
Just one last kiss and I'll say goodnight
Nos da cariad, I'll dream of you
The lyrics of Here Be Dragons' song "Goodnight Cariad" are deeply sentimental and touching. The singer is asking someone to put him to bed as he's had a few drinks, feeling a little unsteady, but also feeling overwhelmed with emotions, both happy and sad. He admits that he's been drinking whisky and beer and that he's gotten sentimental, laughing and crying. He knows that the night is coming to an end and it's time to say goodbye, but he also wants to express his love, albeit in a slightly slurred way.
The song touches on the idea of being homesick while away from home, and that home is wherever you find love. The singer thinks back to where he came from and wonders where he belongs, but he knows that wherever he may be, as long as he's with the person he loves, he'll always be at home. He also acknowledges that when he drinks, he can become more honest and open with his feelings, saying what's on his mind, even if it's not always what he means to say.
Overall, "Goodnight Cariad" is a beautiful and heartfelt song about love, longing, and the emotional impact of alcohol. It's a reminder that no matter where we are in life, we can always find comfort in the arms of someone we love.
