Their first hit, "I'm Into Something Good", was produced by Mickie Most, reaching #1 in the UK (1963) and #13 in the US (1964). Other hits followed such as "Mrs. Brown, You've Got a Lovely Daughter" (1965) and "I'm Henry VIII, I Am". The last was said at the time to be "the fastest-selling song in history". The band played on these singles but many of their subsequent singles employed session musicians, including Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, with contributions from the band. The band's singles were written by top songwriters of the day. Regardless of how the records were made, the guitar player, Lek Leckenby, was a gifted guitarist. Indeed, all the other members were capable players and Peter Noone was a charismatic front man. The band was nominated for two Grammy awards in 1965, both for "Mrs. Brown, You've Got a Lovely Daughter". Noone and the band deliberately emphasized their Manchester accents on the record, which was never intended to be a single.
Born in Manchester, England, Noone was a child TV star in Coronation Street and in other TV work. He was still only 15 when he achieved international fame as teenage heart-throb as leader of the Hermits.
Herman's Hermits, whilst hugely successful in the mid-1960s, never topped the British charts again after their first hit, "I'm Into Something Good". However, they had two US No. 1's with "Mrs. Brown, You've Got a Lovely Daughter" and "I'm Henry the Eighth, I Am". The band disliked both songs, and never released them as singles in Britain. They appeared in several movies, including When The Boys Meet The Girls (1965) and Hold On! (1966). They also appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show, The Dean Martin Show and The Jackie Gleason Show.
They enjoyed consistent success in Britain throughout the rest of the decade but they were even more popular in America for a while. Their hits continued until 1967's "No Milk Today". Soon, however, the Monkees had replaced Herman's Hermits as the simple pop rock act, and the Hermits' career declined. "There's a Kind of Hush (All Over the World)" engendered a revival, but the Hermits never again cracked the top 10 in the U.S. This song was, however, successfully covered by The Carpenters in their album "A Kind of Hush", released in 1976. The band continued releasing records throughout the 1970s with little success. In the end, Herman's Hermits were a band which were both blessed and cursed by the 'niche' in which originally they found success.

Story Of My Life
Herman's Hermits Lyrics

The story of my life
I'll tell about the night we met
And how my heart can't forget
The way you smiled at me
I want the world to know
The story of my life
And that first exciting time
I held you close to me
The sorrow in our love was breakin' up
The mem'ry of a broken heart
But later on, the joy of makin' up
Never never more to part
There's one thing left to do
Before my story's through
I've got to take you for my wife
So the story of my life
Can start and end with you
The sorrow in our love was breakin' up
The mem'ry of a broken heart
But later on, the joy of makin' up
Never never more to part
There's one thing left to do
Before my story's through
I've got to take you for my wife
So the story of my life
Can start and end
Can start and end
Can start and end with you
The lyrics of "Story of My Life" by Herman's Hermits depict a love story from the singer's perspective. The song is about the desire to share their experiences and emotions with the world, particularly about the night they first met and how they cannot forget the way the other person smiled at them. They express the longing to let the world know about the magical moment when their lips met and the excitement of holding each other close for the first time.
The lyrics also touch upon the difficulties the couple faced in their love, describing the sorrow and heartbreak that threatened to break them apart. However, they find solace in the joy of making up and decide to never separate again. The song emphasizes the importance of taking the relationship to another level by expressing a desire to marry their loved one, so that the story of their life can truly begin and end with that person.
Ultimately, "Story of My Life" conveys a passionate and heartfelt sentiment about finding love and wanting to share that love with the world, as well as the determination to make a commitment and have a life intertwined with the person who has captured their heart.

Someday I'm going to write
In the future, I will document
The story of my life
The tale of my existence
I'll tell about the night we met
I will recount the evening we first encountered each other
And how my heart can't forget
And the way my heart cannot erase from its memory
The way you smiled at me
The manner in which you expressed joy through your smile towards me
I want the world to know
I desire for the entire world to be aware
The story of my life
The narrative of my existence
About the night your lips met mine
Concerning the evening when our lips made contact
And that first exciting time
And that initial moment filled with thrill
I held you close to me
I embraced you intimately
The sorrow in our love was breakin' up
The sadness within our relationship was dissipating
The mem'ry of a broken heart
The recollection of a shattered emotional state
But later on, the joy of makin' up
However, subsequently, the delight of reconciling
Never never more to part
Never again to be separated
There's one thing left to do
There remains a single task to be accomplished
Before my story's through
Prior to the completion of my narrative
I've got to take you for my wife
I must marry you
So the story of my life
Consequently, the chronicle of my existence
Can start and end with you
Can commence and conclude with you

Thanks for loading this song. I played Herman and sang this from my couch when I was about 9. I was into something good at that age and loved it!

It's very hard to listen to ANY version of this song, unless it's the one by Bobby Vee.
