Saturday Night
Herman Brood Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The neon light, of the Open all night
Was just in time replaced by the magic appearance of a new day-while
A melancholic Reno was crawling on his back just in
Front of the supermarket door-way child

Hey girl, on a cold summer night
As we stood on the corner
As a man passed by and asked us
What we were doing what we need
As he pointed his big fat finger
To the people hangin' round at the corner of the - other side of street
Oh well

Doin' nothing, just hanging around
What do you mean doin' nothing Sir
So we had to hit him to the ground
Doin' nothing just hanging around
His head all busted lookin' just a little to wise child

I just can't wait
I just can't wait for Saturday night
For Saturday night
For Saturday night
Saturday night

Saturday night
Saturday night
Saturday night

I just can't wait
I just can't wait

Overall Meaning

Herman Brood & His Wild Romance's song "Saturday Night" is an energetic rock song that tells the story of a group of aimless youngsters hanging around on a street corner. The song begins with a description of the end of a night - the neon lights of the Open All Night store have been replaced by the dawn, and a Reno, a type of gambling game, has left someone crawling on their back outside the supermarket. The song then introduces the main characters - a boy and a girl standing on a corner, approached by a man who asks them what they're doing. When the man points across the street to some other people hanging around, the boy responds defensively, "Doin' nothing, just hanging around, what do you mean doin' nothing Sir," and the man ends up on the ground.

The chorus repeats the line "I just can't wait for Saturday night" multiple times, emphasizing the idea that this group of young people is only biding time until they can really let loose and enjoy themselves. The song's rapid pace, heavy guitar riffs, and frantic vocals all contribute to the sense of restless energy that permeates the lyrics. Overall, "Saturday Night" is a classic rock anthem that captures the spirit of youthful boredom and the need for release that characterizes so many people's experiences.

that "shhhhhhh-ah" at 0:10 is just too good, sets you up for some greatness and the rest of the song doesn't disappoint

No lie: I've been playing the opening chords for months on guitar, trying to do something with it. But in the back of my mind it's like "you've heard this". And I finally remembered, in the shower, the lyrics "IT'S SATURDAY NIGHT!". It started to come back to me. I was 23 when this came out so you have to understand the 70's and my "states of mind". FINALLY found it here. My band will cover this........
