That and during the 5th gen console wars, 3DO actually came out with their own console under the same name but got crushed by the PlayStation. The financial hit was the first blow to the company, which was why HOMM III's success only broke even despite being game of the year. The piracy after IV's era finished both companies off.

The funny thing is that this game had special measurements to reduce piracy - for instance they cut a lot on packaging and printing costs to make it cheaper. They released it on a CD in generic Verbatim CD-RW box, instead of the large boxes that games are sold in.

@Jet Black and all of a sudden it's 4,30 in the morning xD .... This used to happen to me a lot of times in early 2000s when I would play H3 and Starcraft every weekend against one of my high school colleagues. We would finish school, and within 2-3 hours we would be at my parents' office (my parents owned a construction company and they've had pretty decent computers, that would allow us at that time to run new games decently)... anyway, from friday afternoon when we finished school, until saturday morning (sometimes even until 9-10 in the morning) we would play Starcraft for a few hours, then H3 in hotseat mode. Then we would go home to sleep, and when we wake up we would go back (sometimes sneaking out of the house as my parents would be a bit restrictive at times) to the office and continue our game until next day in the morning xD .... Back then it wouldn't seem that much fun considering how often I'd lose to my colleague, but now, seeing as how shitty the life has become, I reckon I must have had a lot of fun.

+Androandroandrica i found a trick for that. A second hero with no army is following around, picking up the creatures and artifacts that I would have discarded. Eventually the second hero will have an army of his own, then I get a third hero somewhere

+Androandroandrica when you have diplomacy, youre going to be recruiting all kinds of bad ass amount of bad ass neutral creatures from the map, and when you have creatures from so many different races, your troop morale is horrible. Thats why you need leadership. Then you can use other bunch of great artifacts instead of morale boosting artifacts.

This music is the Holy Grail to me. I remember when I first got HoM&M3, installed it, started it up and this music came on. It was the greatest moment since playing HoM&M2 which had been years ago. I'd pay anything to go back to that day...it was such a great moment and this game will forever be one my favorites.
