You guys made my childhood when I got the game in 2002 - not only was this my favorite game ever, got it on Christmas, got up every night at 4 for the entire holiday just to play it - what a beautiful game, wonderful storytelling and absolutely memorable and emotinally touching music... some of it, tears me up <3 THANKS! <3 now 32 years old, still gaming and loving the good ol' days ;) and my mom is a HUGE fan too "put on that good muzak music I love" = Heroes 4 <3

One of the best Homm-, and gaming-, songs of all time. It fits "Order" so perfectly, you have nature and life all happy and goody, but with the Order theme there's not only the beautiful and elegant flutes... There's this heavy base in the background. It's the pillars, the squares, the Titans holding the line and breaking order. It's beautiful, not because of the flute being graceful, the flute is graceful because the order of which it stands upon.

First contact with Homm was the cards added to snacks for promotion of IVth part, I didn't have PC then it was about 2002. Then my friend got PC with the same game HOMM IV and first time i saw it I felt in love with music with vibe with fantasy. Later I got my own pc and I bought magazine with Homm II, I started to read fantasy books, interesting in history and music. In some very wird way Homm IV just made me, even if it seems cheesy. This soundtrack makes me totally melancholic and nostalgic <3

I completely overlooked this game when it came out in 2002 (and I guess most people did) because I was addicted in H3.
Giving it a second chance now 13 yrs later I released how amazing it is and even better than H3.

+Tito Schmidt - AOR Melodic Rock Yes, it's a very good game and most people undervalue it because they are unwilling to adapt, which I had a fair amount of trouble doing myself.

I came back to playing Heroes 3 a while ago and the more I play it - or rather, the more I try to play it - the more I start to realize how impossibly overrated that one is. It has the largest amount of factions to choose from and that's, unfortunately, the only plus out of the entire game. The default Heroes 3 maps are easily the worst of all the series up until 6 - which I haven't played yet - allowing absolutely no strategy other than rushing the hell out of your opponent, no small part due to the terrible lack of neutral towns. Heroes 1 and 2 are far superior to 3, default Heroes 5 could equal 3, but with the "Heroes 5.5" overhaul it's easily up there with Heroes 1 and 2. As for 4, it's as if the game was of another game serie, but it's great nostalgia and quite honestly, I think I'm going to install it right now. Screw Heroes 3, WoG didn't help it either.

As for the music, all of them are spectacular.

I just love the fact your heroes can actually do something directly instead of influencing the battle only with spell and stats... It's Might and Magic FFS not Stats and Magic...

I think the nature theme is better, but this is also nice, it maches the topic. But this is actually the race with the strongest units and most fun to play. Especially the Magic. just a funny thing: on german this is called just "order". p.s: nice city!

Gorgeous music like all of homm 4's. I think the town screens in Homm 4 were not as good as 3 though. In 4 all towns look like a messy random placement of structures. In 3 each one was so unique and it really felt like the structures belonged where they go. Still 4 is an awesome game, not sure why it gets so much hate. Much much better than 5 and 6.

well the towns in H4 only look that way because their look always depends on the surroundings. In H3 and 5 towns ALWAYS look the same, while in H4, for example, if you're in a dungeon, or in snow your town will look that way. Which in my opinion is better than just looking great, but completely the same every time

This game actually was pretty good. I enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than Heroes V anyways. I thought Heroes IV had a great narrative and incredible music! Unfortunately Heroes IV seems to have cd copy protection that brings down newer Operating Systems like Vista and Windows 7. I've tried no cd cracks and stuff because I heard that worked but I was still unable to get it to run. Anyone know if this game can be legally downloaded somewhere and it would work? I do want to play it again.

2. Might (Cheap Units, very adaptable, and Might Heroes because Grandmaster Magic Resist is bae.)

4. Nature (Faerie Dragons, Summon Magic is crap though, however makes for good fun with Death Magic)
5. Chaos (I mean look at the Spell damage potential here... and the Black Dragons)

@Przemysław Piotrowski Titans have chaos ward as natural ability which render they get only 50% from dmg spell hence they are chaos town special. Also heroes can cast mirror which reflect any dmg caused to boosted units. Titans does not has ward to other towns byt there are almost no attacking spells in other towns. Little bit necro with poison, plague and death hand. And some in castle which work similar to mirror but are very weak. Plus ice shot from order. On top on that you can hire castle heroes which are ultimate protective spell casters and gain possibly other wards.

Here's mine of faction list 1: Nature (Randomly summon creatures with druids and can recruit all of them in the towns) 2: Death (With Necro, you can turn dead enemies into your skeletons. I got like 3k skeletons one game.) 3: Chaos (Black dragons!) 4: Order (Who doesn't like Titans?) 5: Life 6: Might

@dexmaether Thanks for responding. I wound up buying it again off of gog dot com (a website that sells classic games for cheap) not too long ago. I was addicted to it for about a week. Besides some balance issues, it's still a pretty awesome game. I love the narrative in the campaigns too. Anyways thanks for helping me out, but yeah I got a copy I can play now.

As a matter of fact, the game was rusher. Its development took place when 3do was nearly banckrupt. And then, when 3do went bankrupt, New World Computing was shut down while they were working on Heroes 5.

Best HOMM IV music, IMO, is Nature and Order themes. Didn't like the gameplay as much as HOMM 5 though, but I only really liked HOMM5 so much because of huge Custom Maps with enough room for every race to have multiple cities. Hated HOMM 6 because, on top of Ubisoft charging so much for such short and shitty expansion DLC, there are no good maps so once you finish the campaign you're done.

Yes, the original HoMM4 probably had the best campaigns/stories in the series. However, the two expansion packs had relatively shallow and poor stories.

Imo, chaos is the weakest. Death is very strong when your hero has Necromancy at grandmaster, raises vampires. But my favourite is Order.

I began with HoMM 2 and the music was outstanding, 3 was the very best and the peak in my opinion in way of music, artwork and towns, 4 was also very good had the best quality in 2d artwork and music quality but dave me not the same emotional feeling all the time as 3 did / and 2 at the beginning of playing. All other 3D HoMM from 5 to 6 were just not as good I still would like HoMM in high quality 2D, and 6 is the worst in my opinion cause Paul Romero didn't composed for it and in multiplayer games your own friend couldn't see what you doing in your turn and could not visit his towns -.- Maybe no one ever noticeed but Might and Magic 8 Day of Destroyer had also incredible good music maybe not in quality of instruments and digital finess but the compositions are almost equal to HoMM 3 I wish somebody would recreate the pieces of HoMM 3 =)

I'm actually surprised that so few people share this opinion about the latter titles in the series, but I guess it might as well, not everyone liked the game for its rather welcoming and story classic aesthetic I fell in love with. :/

but in either case, I absolutely agree with you here, it wasn't easy getting into HoMM 4, even though I love what they tried to do with its gameplay and in just how many ways they were thinking outside the box in order to expand the staleness of the old game, not to mention the fact that they understood ahead of the time how much the gameplay was being stale! It's really no wonder the actual creator said that they were thinking much like other gamers at the time of creating their games.

ENTHOR Paul A. Romero did compose the music for heroes 6. Although most of it's music is just re-recorded music from previous parts. Unfortunately, he did not write the music for heroes 7 and any possible upcoming parts.

serser1996529 Hmm I know personnally both Paul and Rob, and they actually are composing for Homm 7. They've posted some teasers with their early versions of the stronghold theme and one of a campaign on their personal facebook pages as well.
I also can add that their amazing style keeps being the same, while their technical possibilities are just getting better, so the sound is really amazing :)

Seriously, if we ignore the ulgy mofo animations from heroes 4, the game is extremly rich (357946279 ways to build heroes, they can fight like other units, neutral creatures that chase your ass when it's not your turn etc.) Also, heroes 6 had so much potential, gameplay was a bit similar, but UBI just threw it to a garbage can and let the bugs proliferate in it. Heroes 3, nothing to say, everyone keeps saying it's the best, why should I repeat it? (Just like now) Heroes 5? Tried to bring the magic of heroes 3's "randomness"? Fail.

meh, just build 7 heroes as either Nature or Life and win the game; it's what I do on champion level anyway. IV is the only HoMM game where creatures are useless.
1/2 priest (divine intervention) + 4 druids (summons) + Martyr on summoned stack on priest = almost unkillable party. Throw in a knight or archer or whatever. Some of the spells are ridiculous for their level. (quicksand, martyr, wasp swarm, confusion, song of peace) a single level 2 hero can stun a whole stack of infinite angels for a whole turn as long as he has mana. I also need not mention how much divine intervention is OP on 7 heroes.
On the other hand you have useless spells like banish or pain mirror or defender or steal all spells.

5 and 6 go back to 3's system which is a completely different story. You actually need to take care of your creatures/buy them regularly now. Wow.

besides that's the building you get when you find the final artifact... maybe he made it. I don't know it for sure since I always played nature, the eco-terrorist elves will smite all those who oppose nature =)
