yay a new one of these!

rampart is prolly the most balanced of the factions, being neither top tier nor bottom tier. their early game is great, and their lategame solid. their key weakness lies in their low amount of truly useful units, making them rely on captured cities and hives to supplement the remaining slots, and they are woodexpensive.

centaurs are arguably the best non-cheese tier 1 tied with halberdiers. centaurs take a lot of punishment and deal it out in equal measures while being very quick. they're pricey for tier 1, but worth it. dwarves suffer from the tank-syndrome. they are fantastic at what they do (soaking damage), way better than walking dead on the same tier, but sadly tanks aren't really a good/needed unit archetype. they are mostly seen as citydefenders, where they are likely to get 1 or 2 extra rounds of turretfire for you. grand elves are the best tier 3 in the game bar none, they are ridiculously powerful and their only weakness is their low-ish speed. one of the few tier 3 units that still carry weight in the lategame. pegasi are one of my personal hateunits. they are cheap, quick and fly, but their power leaves much to be desired, as they seemingly get outbrawled by everything. their role is clearly disruption of backlines, and that's where they get results that aren't disappointing. hard to build big nmbers though as the AI fucking hates flying horses more than anything and always targets them over anything else in the army ever, at least when i play.

dendroids are another tank aka very niche unit, except dendroids have kinda poor stats even for tankling (they don't even have the highest hp of all tier 5 units the fuck). their bind ability is noteworthy though, as it makes dendroids a great unit to keep pesky backline disruptors from your grand elves. too slow for main armies, they are cheap as siege defenders and serve a unique role. unicorns are kinda your standard tier 6 unit, powerful and quick with a nice ability. not as good as nagas, dreadies or champions, but they also don't need to hide from any of these. blind can be devastating. and finally, the dragons. with how hyped black dragons are, one would think that gold dragons are jsut a lesser being altogether. but that's not really true, at least not as much as i though back when i reinstalled heroes 3 months ago. green and gold dragons are, offensively, equal to their red and black coutnerparts, and gold dragons are even slightly superior in their attack and defense stt comapred to black dragons. what makes ramparts dragons way worse though is their comaprative lack of bulk. "only" 150/250 hp respectively and no full magic resistance leaves huge gaps in terms of durability (approx. 1 attack from a tier 7 unit, and also ofc implosion heroes), making them ultimately worse than the dungeon counterparts. but they are still a good tier 7 unit that can take the fight to other powerful tier 7 units.

overall, rampart is good, but not amazingly so like necropolis, conflux or castle.

Low amount of useful units? There are many factions in the game with truly useless units, but Rampart isn't one of these. Rampart only has good units. Zombies are useless for example. In Rampart every unit has a purpose. Dwarves have great HPs and good Damage, Pegasus let's you start a _ LOT _ of battles, Dendroids make Rampart the BEST faction in the game with siege-defenses..

The only top-tier factions are Necropolis and Conflux. Castle is never banned in tournaments, Necro and Flux are. Dendroids have 2nd highest HP, and low stats? No. Even tho ATK and DEF stats are generally low, and speed is lowest, the HP is so high that you can't say that it's stats are "low". Think about Monks for example. 30HP... The bind also makes them one of the best 5th lvl units in the game, by far. With the dendroids, rampart is the best siege-defender in the game, even beating Fortress which has 2-hex-moat.

Grand elves aren't necessarily the best 3rd lvl in the game. They are one of the best ones, but personally i would say that Cerberi are better. More speed, more HPs, No enemy retaliation, MUCH better ATK and DEF etc. Plus, only weakness is low speed? Grand elf is medium-fast - only a few 3rd lvl units beat it's speed. It's true weakness is super-low HPs - if any unit hits it, it is COMPLETELY defenseless, and it doesn't even have No Melee Penalty to fend off attackers..it's speed is good.

In late-game, also, the AI targets the Elves all the time, and with their low HPs you get them killed very fast, so i would say Ice Elementals and Cerberi carry a lot more weight in late-game.

I agree, i don't like Pegasi much either, but it's speed is insanely good. Let's you start a LOT of hero-fights.

Personally i would say that Rampart's dragons are better than Dungeon's dragons. Why? Higher speed, Higher ATK/DEF. I think that at that level, speed is much more important than HP, because it makes Rampart a faster team than Dungeon.

@tylerbennett5381

This video is just one slog fest after another.

I recently commented on a video saying that you didn't have to play as efficiently as you were. But this video right here is where I'm glad you play so efficiently.

Great starts? Play fast and loose, just have fun with it. Go crazy and amass 2k skeletons or 20 Archangels

Bad starts? Play efficiently, carve out every advantage you can and come out victorious.

I'm only 25% done with your let's play list but I'm happy to see where it goes from here

@TheKnownWorld

+Bloomex Your suggestion has been a notion reiterated many times on my channel and is also the standard for many YouTubers. However, I do not personally like this method, nor have I ever understood the appeal behind it.

If I do cut my longer videos into half-hour segments, I imagine that my YouTube channel as a whole will become a giant cluster of half-hour videos. Take, for example, my "Let's Play Heroes of Might and Magic III" playlist, which currently already has 9 videos in it. Currently, if I split my videos up into half-hour segments, this playlist would go from having 9 videos in it to having ~50 videos in it -- which I would imagine is far more disorganized to sift through.

I am also not sure how splitting my video into half-hour segments would help you very much. Here, you are telling me that it's difficult for you to find time to watch a 5-hour video, but you yourself can choose how much of it you want to watch in any one sitting. You could, say, watch my video for 15 minutes on one day, 30 minutes on the next, 1 hour on the third day, etc. In the end, you're the one in charge of how much you watch, and I can't imagine how me splitting up my videos would be of significant influence in this regard.

Besides, when I play a match of Heroes III, I prefer to do it all in one sitting rather than doing 30-minute segments (which additionally requires further editing) anyway.

In any case, thanks for the feedback! Cheers! :)

@kontras23

Ok, you really have the skill and obviously a good knowledge of the game, but I would like to submit an observation.

First of all, please don't take this as criticism, because I know you can't control what will the random map you create look like, but almost all of the maps you played this way turned out to be real shitty. I guess you played Heroes 3 random map thousands of times, so I assume that you saw that the random map you create sometimes turns out to be real tough one, with lots of treasure areas, heterogeneous map look (in terms of different terrains), very small area around your town with lack of recourses, and generally not many towns on the map or subterrain.

I am pretty sure you know what I am talking about : ). Please do one map of that kind, and play 1v7 on 200%. If you are too lazy to generate that kind of map, feel free to contact me as I have dozens of that kind stashed somewhere on my PC.

I almost forgot to say you are doing a great work, and that I enjoy your commentaries.

Best regards.

+TheKnownWorld "I might be able to beat this faster than my Stronghold video"

Rampart Video: 5:38:22

Stronghold Video: 3:26:11

..I'd say that is much faster Kappa

Though, I don't blame you, stuck without any options do to no ore/ore mine.

Ahhh, Rampart... Probably my favorite faction, but not because it has especially strong units or a lot of useful heroes, but because its design is perfect. The thing is that the developers absolutely NAILED something while designing the look of Rampart that could almost be considered inconceivable - they successfully mixed the aesthetics of Medieval Japan and Shire from LotR! Absolutely spectacular. I only realized it very recently while on one of my binges of HOMM3 that I have from time to time.

@TheKnownWorld

Nice observations! I like how you're looking at Rampart from an aesthetic perspective instead of a gameplay perspective – this is a nice change of pace! Personally, I think all of the soundtracks in Heroes III are great, but the Rampart theme is my personal favorite. ;)

@econdude3811

Rampart is one of the easier factions. I skip the dwarves early in the game and go straight for elves. Upgrading Centaurs and Elves early is particularly effective. True, you have to consider the map and your playing style, but you can generate a huge advantage early because of the relatively strong first level creatures and third level shooters. Then basically try for dragons as fast as possible - and the resource silo helps tremendously

@TheKnownWorld

Another key aspect to factor in when comparing dragons, however, is that Gold Dragons are actually vulnerable to Implosion whereas Black Dragons are not (not taking into account Orb of Vulnerability, of course). For that alone, and not even factoring in their higher HP, I would probably take Black Dragons over Gold Dragons if given the choice.

@ODee1995

Yep, that's definitely one thing. Personally i just prefer Goldies :p, and also, sometimes in PVP you  could have a rule for banning Implosion?

Aside from that, according to my experience the bot rarely uses implosion..?

So if you play a PVP with implosion on, the opponent happens to get it, or if you play against the AI and you get unlucky...then i'd agree with you :).

Thanks for taking time to read and respond, btw.

@TheKnownWorld

***** There are some groups of players who ban Implosion in competitive play. However, this does not seem to be the case with rules in WCL (not 100% sure about that) or Heroes World. As a result, it becomes a very possible (and very scary) reality to acquire Implosion via Mage Guild Level 5, spell scrolls, Tome of Earth Magic, or Spellbinder's Hat.

My pleasure on responding! I would have done so earlier but this comment seemed to slip past my comment-checking. :)

@RealAudi0

Nice videos man, seeing the way you play and your explanations are really entertaining and informative. Keep it up :)

@TheKnownWorld

Thank you! Keep it up I shall. :)
