I played without the CD and the one I played was the very first version of the game in MIDI, this is the Warlock's tune and even the lyrics make sense for a warlock, I never played the expansion.

@@TheReecesl94 Yes, it seems in some versions, the themes were swapped. Ah I remember these were more like MIDI tunes too... I remember the necromancer theme as being more simple, slower...

In fact, I'm pretty sure the MIDI barbarian theme was what I heard in the necromancer town.

I really hated to play as Necromancer because to my young eyes, units look scary as hell. I even had a nightmare of them... I mean look at the zombie and imagine if you be one of them it's crazy.
But now, I can see the beauty of this artwork. How awesome this vagueness produces the uniqueness of the game. I really miss these, let's say, inferior graphics so badly...

I started to become fascinated by scary things and horror pretty early. Can't remember anything that I would hate because it was too scary. No, wait, there was music, I had some music tracks that were too scary for me, so I skipped them most of the time. But I didn't "hate" them, I was still drawn to them somehow, so I tried to listen to them sometimes, carefully, when parents were nearby and it was bright outside.

Spying on my parents watching X-Files, those were the days.

Haha. I think I wasn't scared from zombies. I used to call them "rotten socks" for some reason. Or maybe I was but I forgot... Though my sister was scared of zombies from heroes 3 and likewise I was scared of might and magic VII locations, caves... scary houses etc.
It was also a little bit disgusting for me to imagine what's under mummys bandages. Fortunately whatever is under crumbles when you kill mummy :)

My friend's version of HOMM II had this as their Necromancer theme. But for some reason mine had something else entirely. And in my game, this theme is the theme for the Warlock town, but sounds slightly different. Didn't have the vocals. I wonder why.

There was HoMM2 Succession Wars and then the expansion Price of Loyalty. They redid the town themes for PoL. Also, there are options in game for CD Stereo w/ Opera, CD Stereo w/o Opera, and midi. Thus, there are six themes you might hear play for each town, and many of them are similar across towns.

This was the Warlock theme in my original version. When I got the expansion, this was the Necromancer theme and I had to manually change it back to Warlock.

Then you had sound settings on MIDI. In the copy I used to have, this was for Necromancer only if you selected one of the other sound settings.

This is indeed the Warlock (and Barb) soundtrack in the original game which I got without any addons in the mid 90s. OP has a garbled soundtrack.
