Easy
Hey Hey My My Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I will wake you, up at night
I won't write curses, on your door
I will stick, to the fact
That nobody's angry, anymore

You'll stop weaping, in the dark
I'll stop saying, you're a whore
I will stick, to the fact
That you don't love me, anymore

It's so easy, to break up
Cause we know we didn't match up
And we're always amazed
When we look at the craziness tearing, us apart

Yes it's so easy, to break up
Cause we know we didn't match up
And we're always amazed
When we look at the craziness tearing, us apart
All apart

You're not that lovely
Not that bright
I finally get happy when you're out of site
Please let's stick, to the fact
That it is time to turn off the light

I have memories, of what's been been done
I try to find good ones, but there are none
Please let's stick, to the fact
It is time to forget the fight

It's so easy, to break up
Cause we know we didn't match up
And we're always amazed
When we look at the craziness tearing, us apart

Yes it's so easy, to break up
Cause we know we didn't match up
And we're always amazed

When we look at the craziness tearing, us apart
All apart

Overall Meaning

The song "Easy" by Hey Hey My My is a breakup song that is both honest and straightforward. The lyrics depict the couple's realization that their relationship has come to an end, which leads to a discussion about the difficulties that come with letting go. The first verse explains that the singer of the song won't cause any drama, but rather will stick to the fact that nobody involved is angry anymore. The second verse describes a similar situation, where one party will stop crying, while the other will stop throwing insults. This is followed by the chorus, which emphasizes that breaking up is easy because the couple recognized that they weren't really compatible. The third verse has a bitter and sarcastic tone, pointing out the other person's flaws, and admits that it is time to move on and forget about the past.

Overall, the song's lyrics can be seen as a commentary on the difficulty of letting go of a relationship, even when both parties know that it's not working out. The song's simplicity and honesty make it relatable, and it's easy to connect with the feelings of heartbreak and confusion that the lyrics express.

Neil Young is remarkably skilled in his strumming-hand techniques, which especially shows up on his acoustic stuff. Of course, it's all intuitive and organic for him - it's always trickier trying to learn another player's natural idiosyncrasies. Btw, Justin, I see you've figured out that it really helps to wear a flannel shirt when you're doing Neil!

The Last Rebel Show

Neils way of playing, constantly keeping his right hand moving is actually text book. It’s just most people don’t play text book even tho they may be really good, if that makes sense. I’m a 45 year guitar player and I have a hard time using Neils technique without really thinking about it.
