Lay Me Down
Hey Negrita Lyrics

That one day I will be, where I was
Right there, right next to you
And it's hard, the days just seem so dark
The moon, and the stars, are nothing without you
Your touch, your skin, where do I begin?
No words can explain, the way I'm missing you
The night, this emptiness, this hole that I'm inside
You told me not to cry when you were gone
But the feeling's overwhelming, it's much too strong
Can I lay by your side, next to you, you
And make sure you're alright
I'll take care of you
And I don't want to be here if I can't be with you tonight
I'm reaching out to you
Can you hear my call? (Who's to say you won't hear me?)
This hurt that I've been through
I'm missing you, missing you like crazy
You told me not to cry when you were gone
But the feeling's overwhelming, it's much too strong
Can I lay by your side, next to you, you
And make sure you're alright
I'll take care of you
And I don't want to be here if I can't be with you tonight
Lay me down tonight
Lay me by your side
Lay me by your side
The lyrics to Hey Negrita's "Lay Me Down" express the deep longing and heartache of missing a loved one who is no longer present. The singer declares their belief that one day they will reunite with their loved one, and describes the overwhelming sadness and emptiness they feel in the interim. The imagery of the moon and stars being meaningless without the loved one's presence underscores the depth of their grief. The singer seeks solace in the memory of their loved one's touch and skin, but finds themselves unable to fully convey the degree of their longing through words alone. The chorus contains the repeated plea to be allowed to lay next to the person they miss so desperately, and to care for them and make sure they are alright.
Throughout the song, there is a sense of desperation, as the singer's emotions threaten to overwhelm them. The repetition of the line "you told me not to cry when you were gone" suggests that the loved one has left before, and that the singer has experienced this pain before. The final lines, "Lay me down tonight, Lay me by your side, Lay me by your side" emphasize the singer's desire for physical closeness, and their hope that they will at least have the opportunity to be close to their loved one in sleep, even if they cannot be with them in wakefulness.
Overall, the lyrics of "Lay Me Down" express a deep sense of loss and longing, and offer a moving tribute to the power of love and connection.
