Several songs written and a sprained pinky finger from over stressing the High E string later, she decided to produce her first EP instead of just playing her tunes to her brown suede sofa.
Heymun's debut single "By Sea" made its radio debut on Triple J Unearthed's Digital Radio Australia and on FBi Radio, Australia. She won First Place in the Folk/Singer-Songwriter category at the Unsigned Only USA 2013 amongst 9,000 entries. She was a unanimous winner amongst the judges who consists of iconic recording artists Chrissie Hynde (The Pretenders); Iggy Pop; Neon Trees and Cyndi Lauper, Of Monsters and Men and more.
Her track By Sea has also premiered overseas in Malaysia on Traxx FM , Malaysian Airlines & Garuda Indonesia's inflight radio.
Heymun booked on her first US Showcase at The CBGB Festival X Sonicbids as their New Emerging Artist lineup in New York City's Arlene's Grocery, (where The Strokes played in year 2000 and where Moby apparently loves to sing karaoke)
With stars in her eyes and a heart eager to sail, Heymun has been riding the waves of one adventurous sea. She may not have imagined music as a career, but it sure seems music fancied the idea of her ever since the day she was born.
From Malaysia to Australia, echoing across the sea, it took a trip far from home for Heymun to be swept up by the waves of a sudden meet with destiny.
Whispering “Pick Me!” in a music shop in Sydney, Heymun took her first glance upon one special Yamaha guitar that stole her heart away. This little treat to herself, unbeknownst to her, would be the start of a magical journey down recording lane.
This was it. The defining moment that changed the direction of Heymun’s sails. No longer set to port towards a career in film, Heymun welcomed the wind to take her sailing in the path of music.
It’s been said her brown suede sofa was the first to hear Heymun’s charming chords and soothing melodies. And this is, in fact, true.
Her sofa has soaked in a wealth of soul, heart, sweat and tears. And from this humble fabric spot light audience, to radio, studio and stage, Heymun has left the living room to share her life’s journey with the world. Through this new audio experience, she encourages others to listen in and take sail to discover their own hopes and dreams.
If I were to whip up a fabulously fresh musical milkshake mixed with a dash of old folk, Meiko, Feist, Lilly Allen, The Bird and The Bee, Mazzy Star, Nora Jones and perhaps a tiny pinch of Lykke Li, Heymun would be the tasty sound you hear.
Heymun delivers adorable indie folk songs with a special magic. Between the sweet strumming of her guitar, to the precious lull of her voice, one can’t help but smile. She is just too cute.
