Hi-Five was signed to Jive Records and released their first album, Hi-Five, in 1990. The album went multi-platinum and was produced by award-winning hitmaker Teddy Riley; it included such singles as "I Just Can't Handle It", "I Can't Wait Another Minute", and their biggest hit to date, "I Like The Way (The Kissing Game)", which went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the Billboard R&B chart. The group enjoyed mainstream success and received comparisons to many of their R&B counterparts, namely New Edition.
Hi-Five's second LP, Keep It Goin' On, came out in 1992. Though not as successful as their debut effort, several tracks from this album, including "She's Playing Hard To Get" and the R. Kelly-penned "Quality Time" got major airplay. Shortly after this album was released, Roderick "Pooh" Clark was involved in a near-fatal automobile accident. In 1993, Hi-Five emerged with a third album, Faithful, which featured the songs "Unconditional Love" and "Never Should Have Let You Go".
After Hi-Five disbanded around 1994, Thompson released a solo album, Sexsational. He scored a minor hit with "I Wanna Love Like That".
In 2005, Thompson re-incarnated Hi-Five with four new members, one of whom is his younger brother, Jordan. Their new album The Return was released in 2006 on Thompson's independent label, N'Depth.
Unfortunately, on June 1st, 2007, the lead singer Tony Thompson passed away in his hometown of Waco, TX. During this time, Tony Thompson was working on a reunion.
Tony's vision is now coming to fruition with the leadership of long-time friend and band mate, "Trus" (Treston Irby) who has retooled Hi-Five to preserve the signature 90's sound and create new music for listeners born in the 90's. They are now in the studio and preparing to drop a new album on Irby's Bronx Most Wanted label.

I Just Can't Handle It
Hi-Five Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Tried to blow my mind
I was only 16, she was 25
I was walking to school
When she caught my eye
She was looking so good
She was so fly
Her smile
Made me wanna hear her talk
She said she would do anything
Just so she could hear me scream
Just can't handle it
What am I gonna do
Just can't handle it
What excuse could I use
Just can't handle it
She's got me so confused
I thought she was bluffing
Just messing with my head
So I forgot about school
Went to her place instead
She started to undress
As I looked at her thighs
I can't pass this test
'Cause this girl's so fly
She had that funky walk
Her smile
Made me wanna hear her talk
She said she would do anything
Just so she could hear me scream
Just can't handle it
What am I gonna do
Just can't handle it
What excuse could I use
Just can't handle it
She's got me so confused
She was so fly
She had that funky walk
Her smile
Made me wanna hear her talk
She said she would do anything
Just so she could hear me scream
Just can't handle it
What am I gonna do
Just can't handle it
What excuse could I use
Just can't handle it
She's got me so confused
I thought she was bluffing
Just messing with my head
So I forgot about school
Went to her place instead
The lyrics to Hi-Five's song "I Just Can't Handle It" tell the story of a young boy who is pursued by an older woman. The boy is only sixteen years old, and the woman is twenty-five. One day, as he's walking to school, he notices her and is immediately attracted to her. She is confident, beautiful, and has a "funky" walk. She tells him that she will do anything just so she can hear him scream.
The boy is confused and doesn't know what to do, as he is not sure if she is serious or just messing with his head. However, he decides to go to her place instead of going to school, and she starts to undress in front of him. He is overwhelmed by her beauty and starts to doubt whether he can live up to her expectations. The boy realizes that he can't handle the situation and doesn't know what excuse to make.
The lyrics of this song discuss themes of age differences, power dynamics, and sexual attraction. The boy is overwhelmed by the older woman's beauty and confidence, but he is also unsure of what to do. The song highlights the pressure that young people can feel when they are put in situations that they are not yet ready for.
