It’s been two years since the release of Hideout’s debut album Rookie, and in that time many things have changed for Rodriguez. Most tragically, the passing of his brother. So Many Hoops, So Little Time deals with grief in different spectrums –– the album ranges both sonically & lyrically from whimsical space-pop to crushing acoustic vulnerability. There isn’t a singular concept or message, but the deeper you delve into Hideout’s world the more you feel nostalgia and a sense of loss.
Hideout began as a recording project. The majority of Rookie was recorded while on the road with Cults. Rodriguez took advantage of the downtime by tracking songs in hotel rooms or at friends’ homes. Fast-forward to the forthcoming So Many Hoops, So Little Time –– mixed by Loren Humphrey (Nice As Fuck, Guards, The Gloomies) at Stockholm Syndrome Sound Studio in Bushwick, NY –– the recording process was far more linear than Rookie. The album evolved predominantly at Rodriguez’s apartment while the surrounding turmoil of loss sunk in. Emotionally charged, he turned to the art of songwriting & storytelling to help navigate through the many answerless questions.
Now a fully realized band, Hideout has been performing live with a rotating cast of New York musicians over the past year. It’s just the beginning.

All I Want
Hideout Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Into the depths of my timid heart
It's forming the thought
That only in death can I have what I want
Here, now, there, and then
Well I can catch me remembering
Makes me think your mind is changing
Like you changed me
And even in the afterlife
I will continue searching
And in every life after this
Thoughts of you will keep me warm
All that I want
Darling you are all that I want
You should know you're all that I want
Yes you are, you're all that I want
The spells are cast, they don't last
'Cause I just don't have an attention span
In this digital age
I can feel this current buzzing in my brain
And the fear of it crept through the depths
Is taunting me for me saying
Man, I don't think your mind is changing
Like you changed me
Understand you are all that I want
Yes you are, you're all that I want
All that I want
Darling you are all that I want
You are all that I want
And it's hard for me to say, but you're all that I want
All that I want
All that I want
I heard you once say that you are all that I want
All that I want
Darling you are all that I want
All that I want
The song All I Want by Hideout presents a deep and moving plea for love and companionship. The lyrics portray a sense of desperation and a fear of losing the one they love. The opening lines, "The fear crept through the depths, into the depths of my timid heart," portrays the depth of emotions the singer is feeling. They believe that death may be the only way they can be with the person they love. The lyrics suggest a level of commitment and dedication to love that is all-consuming, "And even in the afterlife, I will continue searching. And in every life after this, thoughts of you will keep me warm."
The chorus of the song is a repetition of the line, "All that I want, Darling you are all that I want," which emphasizes the singer's need for love and connection. They recognize that their attention span and the current digital age make it challenging for them to stay committed, but the love they have for their partner is what keeps them grounded. The line, "And it's hard for me to say, but you're all that I want," shows vulnerability and the struggle to open up.
Overall, the lyrics of the song emphasize the importance of love and human connection. It portrays a sense of desperation and fear of losing the one they love. The song is a reminder that no matter what we face in life, the love we have for one another is what keeps us going.

The fear crept through the depths
I felt immense fear that slowly consumed me
Into the depths of my timid heart
That fear deeply affected my shy and anxious nature
It's forming the thought
This fear created a belief in my mind
That only in death can I have what I want
My deepest desires can only be fulfilled in death
Here, now, there, and then
At any time and place
Well I can catch me remembering
I find myself recollecting memories
Makes me think your mind is changing
It makes me believe that your thoughts about me are shifting
Like you changed me
Just like how you have previously altered my life
And even in the afterlife
Even after I die
I will continue searching
I will still pursue my desires
And in every life after this
In every subsequent life that I have
Thoughts of you will keep me warm
I will hold on to thoughts of you for comfort
All that I want
My deepest desire
Darling you are all that I want
You, my love, are the only thing I truly desire
You should know you're all that I want
I want you to be aware of my feelings for you
Yes you are, you're all that I want
You truly are my deepest desire
The spells are cast, they don't last
Spells and magic cannot sustain forever
'Cause I just don't have an attention span
I lose focus and interest easily
In this digital age
In today's world of technology
I can feel this current buzzing in my brain
I feel a constant stimulation in my mind
And the fear of it crept through the depths
This fear disturbs me deeply
Is taunting me for me saying
It torments me for the things I've said
Man, I don't think your mind is changing
I don't believe that your thoughts about me are altering
Like you changed me
Just like how you have transformed me
Understand you are all that I want
I want you to comprehend how much I desire you
You are all that I want
You truly are the only thing I want
And it's hard for me to say, but you're all that I want
It's difficult for me to convey how much I truly desire you
All that I want
My deepest desire
I heard you once say that you are all that I want
I recall you saying that you desire me
Darling you are all that I want
My love, you truly are the only thing I desire
All that I want
My deepest desire

I close the door to all that I am
I called a lie, I told you all I've said
I failed even more than I understand
It's coming out of every wall I mend
You know that I keep my mind on
A note that I keep hiding so long
My love, so long
'Cause you know that I keep a hideout
And all that I'm thinking about is
'Cause you know that I keep a hideout
And all that I'm thinking about is
Time tells me more of who that I am
I'll kneel to all that will release my hand
I talk to the floor, I fight to pretend
You think that I will reach a point to mend?
You know that I keep my mind on
A note that I keep hiding so long
My love, so long
'Cause you know that I keep a hideout
And all that I'm thinking about is
'Cause you know that I keep a hideout
And all that I'm thinking about is
'Cause you know that I keep a hideout
And all that I'm thinking about is
'Cause you know that I keep a hideout
And all that I'm thinking about is

I closed the door
To all that I am
I called a line
I told you all I've said
I felt even more
Than I understand
It's coming out
Of every wall I mend, oh lately
You know that
I keep my mind on
I know that
I keep on hiding so long
My love, so long
Because you know that
I keep a hideout
And know that
I'm thinking about you
Because you know that
I keep a hideout
And know that
I'm thinking about you
Time tells me more
Of her, all I am
I built a wall
That will release
My head
The talk to the floor
I fight to protect
You think that I
Will reach upon
To mend, oh lately
You know that
I keep my mind on
I know that
I keep on hiding so long
My love, so long
Because you…
