They have my hand but I am letting it go
I am the future so don't mess with my flow
You think you own me now we're taking control
It's getting ol-ol-ol-ol-old
And you turn my weapons co-co-co-co-cold
I ain't doing what I'm to-to-to-to-told
I'm keeping my gold
Well I saw you from a far
Through the glass in your car
And you're shouting my name
You won't see me again
Cause there's cracks in the wall
And you're starting to fall
You've got no one to call
I don't need this no more
Don't need this no more
Feeling fustrated as I run through the rain
Stuck to my skin and you show up sick of fame
Who are you to fuse the links in this chain
You just don't get me it's too hard to explain
It's getting ol-ol-ol-ol-old
And you turn my weapons co-co-co-co-cold
I ain't doing what I'm to-to-to-to-told
I'm keeping my gold
I'm keeping my gold
Well I saw you from a far
Through the glass in your car
And you're shouting my name
You won't see me again
Cause there's cracks in the wall
And you're starting to fall
You've got no one to call
I don't need this no more
I don't need this no more
Woah woah woah
Woah woah woah
Woah woah woah
Woah woah woah
Woah woah woah
Woah woah woah
Woah woah woah
Woah woah woah
Now we're taking control
Well I saw you from a far
Through the glass in your car
And you're shouting my name
You won't see me again
Cause there's cracks in the wall
And you're starting to fall
You've got no one to call
I don't need this no more
No I don't need this no more
Woah woah woah
Woah woah woah
Woah woah woah
Woah woah
So I'm keeping my gold
The lyrics of High Tyde's song Gold convey a message of empowerment and autonomy. The singer is declaring that while others may have control over some aspects of their life, they cannot take away their independence and spirit. The repeated phrase "It's getting old" implies that the singer has grown tired of being told what to do and is ready to assert their own agency.
The metaphor of "keeping my gold" further emphasizes this message. Gold is a symbol of wealth and value, and by declaring that they are keeping it, the singer is asserting that they are not letting anyone take away their worth or their ability to make their own choices. The mention of someone "shouting my name" and "showing up sick of fame" suggests that the singer has been dealing with people who want to use or control them for their own purposes.
The closing lines, "Now we're taking control," suggest that the singer is not alone in this struggle and that others are joining them in asserting their independence. The use of repetition throughout the song emphasizes the strength and conviction of the message, making it clear that the singer is not backing down.
