Hiroshima
Highasakite Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Why should I know, why should I care?
That a tiny little thing, like the sun will once will be gone
I'm sure it won't be until long
Besides you and I will both be gone

I should be digging my way to China
With a shovel
But winded up in Portugal
Oh it's a long way to crawl
And I missed the earth and it's blue walls

But when I pop my head up in Hiroshima
Heaven is just like earth only upside down
And I carelessly walk around
I carelessly walk around

Nananana...

Why should I know, why should I care?
That a tiny little thing, like the sun will once will be gone
I'm sure it won't be until long
Besides you and I will both be gone

I should be digging my way to China
With a shovel
But winded up in Portugal
Oh it's a long way to crawl
And I missed the earth and it's blue walls

But when I pop my head up in Hiroshima
Heaven is just like earth only upside down
And I carelessly walk around
I carelessly walk around

But when I pop my head up in Hiroshima
But when I pop my head up in Hi-ro-shima
And I carelessly walk around
I carelessly walk around

But when I pop my head up in Hiroshima
But when I pop my head up in Hi-ro-shima

I carelessly walk around
I carelessly walk around

Nananana...

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Hiroshima" by Highasakite reflect on the fragility of life and insignificance of humanity in the grand scheme of things. The song starts with a rhetorical question of whether we should bother thinking about the future of the sun and the inevitable end it will face. The singer concludes that it won't happen until long and both they and their companion will be gone by then. They express how they should be doing something productive like digging their way to China but instead they ended up in Portugal, a long way from their goal. They lament their missed opportunity to explore and see the beauty of Earth, referring to it as the "blue walls."

The chorus of the song brings in the title of the song, where the singer sees themselves popping their head up in Hiroshima. They note the irony of the place where the first atomic bomb was dropped being a gateway to heaven, and describe how it's just like Earth but upside down. The singer walks around carelessly, perhaps acknowledging the fleeting nature of life in the face of such a catastrophic event.

Overall, the song touches on themes of existentialism and the transient nature of human life, while also referencing historical events that highlight our tendencies towards violence and destruction.
