HighasaKite make songs unlike most things yet to come out of Norway. Pop music with a twist. Let's start in Brooklyn. Via Monrovia to Piraeus and Norwegian mountaintops on to Stockholm.
Irresistible soundscapes full of tasty hooks and mysterious stories, musicians from some of Norways best young bands and then some – Highasakite is undoubtably one of the most original and exciting indiebands you’ve come across in a while.
Keyboards, zither, pounding drums and the occasional noise guitar together with Ingrid Helene's distinctive voice makes a delicious blend of exciting indie pop inspired by artists such as Lykke Li and the movie Where The Wild Things Are.
Highasakite's debut album "All That Floats Will Rain" has received rave reviews throughout the Norwegian press, some even calling it album of the year (Dagbladet) and saying that "No song on this album is redundant, it's all brilliantly brought to life. This, ladies and gentlemen, is pop music!"
Highasakite is playing many of Norways biggest and most important festivals this summer, amonst them Øya and Hove, in support of their debut album 'All That Floats Will Rain', out February 3rd 2012, on Norwegian indie label Riot Factory.
My Name Is Liar
Highasakite Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I am on fire, and broken from within.
Enemies of freedom, freedom itself is under attack.
I want you to be like lancers, their swords confronting the enemy.
I am one with what I am.
I am one with what I am.
Like idiots, idiots, idiots.
In alliance, in alliance with a liar,
Like idiot, idiots, idiots, idiots.
My name is horror, and I am sharing sheets with shame.
I have no sense of honor, and I am not the one to blame.
I am one with what I am.
I am one with what I am.
In alliance, in alliance with a liar,
Like idiots, idiots, idiots.
In alliance, in alliance with a liar,
Like idiot, idiots, idiots.
My name is liar, I'm in love with fire.
Counting the number, when I′m up to seven.
I have no inside, you have no molecules.
My name is liar, I'm in love with fire.
Counting the number, when I'm up to seven.
I have no inside, you have no molecules.
You have no molecules.
In alliance, in alliance with a liar,
Like idiots, idiots, idiots.
In alliance, in alliance with a liar,
Like idiot, idiots, idiots, idiots.
In alliance, in alliance with a liar,
Like idiots, idiots, idiots.
In alliance, in alliance with a liar,
Like idiot, idiots, idiots, idiots.
The lyrics of My Name Is Liar by Highasakite are a combination of self-loathing, despair, and a call to action. The first verse is an introduction of the singer, who calls themselves a liar and a friend of sin. They describe themselves as broken from within and on fire, which can be interpreted as an intense emotional state. The second line talks about enemies of freedom attacking freedom itself, which could be interpreted in a political sense or as a metaphor for someone feeling trapped and unable to express themselves authentically. The last line of the verse is a call to action, urging the listener to be like lancers, soldiers who use their swords to confront the enemy, implying that they need to actively fight for their values.
In the second verse, the singer introduces themselves as horror and says they share sheets with shame. They say they have no sense of honour and aren't to blame. This verse continues the theme of internal turmoil and self-hatred. The repeated lines "I am one with what I am" suggest resignation to a sense of self that the singer is struggling with. In the chorus, the singer is in alliance with a liar and is calling those who are also in alliance "idiots". This could be interpreted in a number of ways - as a self-flagellating statement about aligning with people who are not trustworthy or as a criticism of people who are willing to align with liars.
Overall, the lyrics of My Name Is Liar are a stark and unflinching look at someone in emotional turmoil, struggling with their sense of self and place in the world. The repeated refrain and simple melody emphasize the repetition and circular nature of these emotions, creating an atmosphere of claustrophobia and despair.
