GOLD
Highs Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

She's smoking cigarettes
A sight to see
And I'm a mess
I guess I will admit
That she could take my final breath
How typical of me think
That she would find an interest in me
She took my hand and honestly
She crushed me with dishonesty
I'm thinking back on yesterday
and all the things I couldn't say
So cold
It's getting way too old
Please don't
The same old story told
It goes on and on and on and on
And on and on and on and on
And on and on and on and on
And on and on and on and on
Ignored the warning signs
She's only passing by
She took my heart
And then she went and fucked some other guy
So cold
It's getting way too old
Please don't
The same old story told
It goes on and on and on and on
And on and on and on and on
And on and on and on and on
And on and on and on and on
Fool's gold
False fortune told
You reap what you sow
I don't know you anymore
She wore a mask and held a pitchfork
And danced upon my broken bones
All of this considered
Another lesson learned
So cold
It's getting way too old
Please don't
The same old story told
It goes on and on and on and on
And on and on and on and on

And on and on and on and on
And on and on and on and on and on

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Highs's song "Gold" appear to be a meditation on the dual nature of humanity, the divine and the earthly, and the interconnectedness of all things. The lines "The ocean is your god-self, The sun is your god-self, God is air" suggest that nature itself is divine and that we are all connected to it in some way. The repetition of these lines may also evoke a sense of a mantra or a meditative chant, helping to reinforce this idea.

The lyrics also speak to the idea that humans are not purely divine or purely mundane but rather a mixture of both. "Part of you is man, part of you is god-self" suggests that we are all capable of accessing our higher selves or the divine, but we are also grounded in our earthbound bodies and subject to the trials and tribulations of life. The line "the rest is just stumbling in the mist" captures the sense of uncertainty and confusion that can arise when we lose sight of our divine nature.

Overall, the lyrics to "Gold" by Highs seem to be a reminder that we are all part of something larger than ourselves, and that we can access our divine nature through connecting with nature itself.

Ron, i'm 63 and when I was 10 - 11 years old The Honda CT-70 (Trail 70) came onto the market. I wanted one more than anything in the world. But my parents said, No Motorcycles, Trampolines or Horse's due to the risk of being paralyzed. So like your experience I Also started buying Ct-70's. I eventually bought 10 or 12 Trail 70's between 2010 and 2015. I kept the bikes until recently and Just like your experience I sold them for multiples of the price I paid, Wow, Thanks for the memories !!!

I have been studying the history of money: "For millennia it was also silver, not gold, which was the real basis of the domestic economies: the foundation for most money-of-account systems, for payment of wages and salaries, and for most local retail trade. In 14th to 15th century England, for instance, most highly paid skilled artisans earned 6d a day (six pence, or 5.4g silver in the mid-15th century), and a whole sheep cost 12d. So even the smallest gold coin, the quarter-noble of 20d (with 1.7g fine gold), was of little use for domestic trade.[3].
That works out to near 1oz of silver for a week of HARD work. At minimum wage now that is $600+ per oZ.
