Fast-becoming the darlings of Toronto’s vibrant music scene, alt-pop creators HIGHS’ much- acclaimed musical blend has taken them from bedroom demos to festival stages in a matter of a few short years.
The band’s self-titled EP – a 6 tracker that reflects growing up, the concept of home and spirituality – was produced and engineered at Verge Music Lab by Steve Major (Death From Above 1979, Island, Whitehorse, Great Lake Swimmers) and lead to the band inking a recording deal with highly-respected Indica Records (Half Moon Run, Phantogram, The Gaslight Anthem) in 2014.
“Nomads” of the bands’ debut EP saw a major sync placement in John Cusack’s movie, Adult World, while internatonal recogniton has lead to placement in the Top 30 Hype Machine charts, CMJ Top 200 charting positons, and single “Summer Dress” reaching the #1 spot on CBC Radio 3.
Having shared stages with Cold War Kids, Twin Forks, Hey Ocean, Kopecky Family Band and Rich Aucoin across their native Canada, HIGHS recently played slots at the UK's Focus Wales and The Great Escape. Following the EU trip the band is moving full steam ahead into release plans for their full-length debut album, carefully coaxed and crafted during a spring studio session with producer Luke Smith (Foals, Lily Allen) and due for international release later in 2015. Until then fans can see the band gracing festivals this summer including Ontario’s coveted WayHome Music & Arts Festival.
I Do Do You?

Kept his eyes on the road and his fists clinched tight
It was all over something that didn't matter at all
But he just had to tell her that she was wrong
Then a car swerved, his life flashed right before his eyes
And as he slammed on those brakes a voice whispered inside
If the last word you said was the last breath you drew
Would you be o.k. with the way they remember you
If the last thing you did was the last thing you do
He caught his breath thanked God he was alive
Then a thousand regrets ran through his mind
Like his sons baseball game that he missed last night
All those times he worked late, now he wondered why
Oh and leaving this morning with no goodbye kiss
He sat there tremblin', thinking what if
He pulled his car on the shoulder wiped a tear as he picked that phone up
And he told her how much he loved her and now he can't say it enough
The song "I Do Do You" by Highs is a powerful ballad that explores the theme of the importance of recognizing the preciousness of time and recognizing the importance of the people we love in our lives. The song is a story told from the perspective of a man who has just had a near-death experience on the road. In the opening lyrics, we are made aware of the fact that he had a fight with someone he loves and hung up the phone without saying goodbye.
As he continues to drive, something happens on the road that makes him realize that life is fragile and that none of us know when our time is up. He is filled with regret for all of the moments in his life that he missed or didn't fully appreciate. He wonders whether, if he were to die at that moment, he would be okay with the way people remember him. This line is repeated throughout the song as a reminder that every moment we have is precious, and we should make the most of it.
Eventually, he pulls over and calls the person he's been fighting with. He tells her that he loves her and that he will never take another moment for granted. The song is a poignant reminder to listeners to appreciate the people they share their lives with and to be mindful of how they spend their time.

Verse 1]
I came in, up your front stairs
Heard your voice singing out over pop songs
You were dancing 'round your living room
On the floor, in the sun with your top off
I got tangled up in every word
Every move that you made made my body hurt
I got tangled up in every word
Words that don't mean nothing
[Verse 2]
Came in just to taste it
Saw your name on your bedroom door
Took my shoes out from the hallway
Found a cross lying on the floor
In the night, I can only remember
Cross my eyes while my head is turned
You were dancing while I was sleeping
Tangled every word
[Chorus]
And open wide, closing door
I could stay, I could go
It don't take much to think about it, no
But I do, do you?
[Verse 3]
So free, just be
Oh God, well look at me
But you let go, you speak of things that you barely know
[Chorus]
And open wide, closing door
I could stay, I could go
It don't take much to think about it, no
But I do, do you?
And open wide, closing door
I could stay, I could go
It don't take much to think about it, no
But I do, do you?
[Bridge]
I preach too much about patience
Speaking in tongues hasn't always been true
[Chorus]
And open wide, closing door
I could stay, I could go
It don't take much to think about it, no
But I do, do you?
And open wide, closing door
I could stay, I could go
It don't take much to think about it, no
But I do, do you?
