Safe Haven
Hillary Scott The Scott Family Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
He held the world and me in the palm of his hand
He held us all altogether
The family corner stone
His voice was deep just like his fate
He'd always call me, "sugar babe"
And what I wouldn't give to hear "I love you" one more time
He loved to read John 3:16
He left us so much more than earthly things
Sometimes when there's no answer
No reason for the pain
And I just can't wrap my head around the wire of things that come my way
I still believe you hold a place for us in heaven
So even when my faith on earth is shaken
You're my safe haven
He said my home's not here, no I'm not bound
My hope is built on higher ground
And where I'm going, oh goodbye don't mean a thing
There's gonna be some things I miss
But don't forget God promises we'll be together on the other side
Sometimes when there's no answer
Or no reason for the pain
And I just can't wrap my head around the wire of things that come my way
I still believe you hold a place for us in heaven
So even when my faith on earth is shaken
You're my safe haven
Ooh, ooh, oh
It's comfort for my heart that breaks
To know you're in a better place
And that I'll see your loving face again
I still believe you hold a place for us in heaven
So even when my faith on earth is shaken
You're my safe haven
You're my safe haven
My papa was a big 'ol man
He held the world and me in the palm of his hand
In "Safe Haven," Hillary Scott & The Scott Family honor the memory of Hillary's grandfather who was a pillar of strength and the foundation of their family. Her "papa" was a big man, both in his physical stature and in his role in their lives as the "family corner stone." He loved his family deeply and was a spiritual leader, always tapping along to hymns and reading John 3:16. Even after his passing, his memory provided a safe haven for the family during times of difficulty and pain.
The lyrics of the song offer a message of hope and comfort that even when we are confronted with difficult and painful situations that don't seem to make sense, we can trust that God has a plan and a place for us in heaven. The line "My hope is built on higher ground" is a reference to the hymn "My Hope is Built on Nothing Less," which encourages believers to trust in God's promises and not the shifting sands of life.
The theme of the song is universal and relatable, as anyone who has lost a loved one can understand the pain and grief that comes with it. However, the song reminds us that even in the midst of our sorrow, we can find comfort and hope in the knowledge that our loved ones are in a better place and that we will see them again.

I suddenly lost my grandfather back in 2009, and this song makes me think of him :) He was a Godly husband and father, and every moment here on earth without him is surreal; I expect to see him every time I go to my grandparents' house. Love you, Grampy.

This is my first time hearing this song, and I bawled like a baby. I lost my dad less than a year ago and today is the first of his birthday's that he was not here to celebrate. I was so thankful that I got him in church, so I know I will see him again...but I miss him so much.

This is a great album. Hillary just like her mother Linda Davis has a phenomenal singing voice. Every song on this CD is fantastic. Safe Haven is co-written by former Statler Brother Jimmy Fortune a great singer/songwriter in his own right. Wishing Hillary continued success.
