Beneath The Waters
Hillsong Live Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

This is my revelation
Christ Jesus crucified
Salvation through repentance
At the cross on which He died

Now hear my absolution
Forgiveness for my sin
And I sink beanth the waters
That Christ was buried in

I will rise
I will rise
As Christ was raied to life
Now in Him
Now in Him
I live

I stand a new creation
Baptised in blood and fire
No fear of condemnation
By faith I'm justified

I will rise
I will rise
As Christ was raied to life
Now in Him
Now in Him
I live

I will rise
I will rise
As Christ was raied to life
Now in Him
Now in Him
I live

I rise as You are risen
Declare Your rule and reign
My life confess Your lordship
And glorify Your name

Your word it stands eternal
Your kingdom knows no end
Your praise goes on forever
And on and on again

No power can stand against You
No curse assault Your throne
No one can steal Your glory
For it is Yours alone

I stand to sing Your praises
I stand to testify
For I was dead in my sin

But now I rise
I will rise
As Christ was raised to life
Now in Him
Now in Him
I live

I will rise
I will rise
As Christ was raied to life
Now in Him
Now in Him
I live

I will rise
I will rise
As Christ was raied to life
Now in Him

Now in Him
I live

Overall Meaning

The first verse of Hillsong's song "Beneath the Waters" speaks about the revelation of Christ Jesus who was crucified for our sins. The songwriter acknowledges that repentance is only possible through Him and His ultimate sacrifice on the cross. The second half of the verse talks about the songwriter's personal journey of absolution and forgiveness for their sins. They sink beneath the waters, representing their baptism and spiritual rebirth, the very same waters in which Jesus was buried after His crucifixion. The chorus then rejoices in the resurrections of Christ and the songwriter's new life in Him.

The second verse of the song begins with a declaration of being a new creation after being baptized in blood and fire, representing the Holy Spirit's purging and cleansing effect on a person. The songwriter then boldly states that they have no fear of condemnation, having been justified by faith in Christ. This confidence is evident in the chorus as the songwriter proclaims their new life in Christ, rising like Him from the grave, and now living in Him.

The bridge of the song reiterates the songwriter’s desire to rise with Christ by declaring His rule and reign. They confess His lordship and glorify His name, recognizing His eternal kingdom and the unchanging truth of His Word. The final verse reiterates that no power, curse, or force can deter those who have been redeemed by Christ, and the songwriter stands to testify of their new life in Christ. They once were dead in their sins, but now they rise with Christ and live in Him.
