Homecoming Queen )
Hinder Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's been five years since I've seen her face
She's the holy ghost, lost without a trace
And now we're left with the "what-ifs"
It's been five years since she left for LA
She's an angel with a dirty face
And it seems to me she's a casualty of all the pressure
That we put on her, and now we've lost her for good
It's such a shame, shame, shame that our homecoming queen
Was a lot like you and a lot like me
And she never walked on water
Guess no one really saw her

She was so adored by everyone
When it came to looks, she was next to none
But loved partying and having too much fun
Then she hooked up with the wrong someone
And he promised everything under the sun
And it seems to me she's a casualty of all the pressure
That he put on her, and now we've lost her for good

It's such a shame, shame, shame that our homecoming queen
Was a lot like you and a lot like me
And she never walked on water 'cause no one really saw her
A shame, shame, shame that our homecoming queen
Had a lot to prove and so many to please
She's just somebody's daughter, just looking for somebody to love her

Well, I never knew you
Wish I could've saved you
From losers that drained you
Before you got strung out
With so much potential
How could you let us down?

It's such a shame, shame, shame that our homecoming queen
Was a lot like you and a lot like me
And she never walked on water 'cause no one really saw her
A shame, shame, shame that our homecoming queen
Had a lot to prove and so many to please
She's just somebody's daughter, just looking for somebody to love her
She's just somebody's daughter, just looking for somebody to love her

It's such a shame, shame, shame
It's such a shame, shame, shame
It's such a shame, shame, shame
It's such a shame, shame, shame
It's such a shame, shame, shame
It's such a shame, shame, shame

It's such a shame, shame, shame
It's such a shame, shame, shame

Overall Meaning

The song "Homecoming Queen" by Hinder is a tragic and emotional ballad about a popular and beloved girl who loses herself in the pressure to please others. The song is narrated by someone who knew her but had not seen her in five years. He describes her as the "holy ghost" and states that she was lost without a trace. The girl, who was once the homecoming queen, is depicted as someone who was adored by everyone for her beauty but was never really seen for who she really was. She is painted as a victim of circumstances, preyed upon by someone who promised her the world but ended up draining her of her potential.

The song is a lamentation for the loss of a precious life that was destroyed by the burdens of expectation and the influence of those who didn't have her best interests at heart. The disappointing reality that the homecoming queen was just like everyone else, with flaws and vulnerabilities, adds to the tragedy of her untimely demise.

Overall, "Homecoming Queen" is a poignant reminder of how we often put people on a pedestal and forget that they are human, with feelings and weaknesses. The song is a cautionary tale about the dangers of buying into superficial labels and the importance of being true to oneself.

Hinder with Austin is one of the greatest rock bands it's sad they don't get recognized for their talent

@Worlfgang

who said they didnt recognized?

@HannahsMoviesAndMusic

@@Worlfgang I think they meant that they don't get recognized for their songs and talent outside of Lips Of An Angel. Sure, it's a great song, but if you only know Hinder just off of that song, you won't know their musical talents in other places like incredible guitar riffs or, for some songs, 80s hair band style screams. All of that isn't seen in their most popular songs; all that's portrayed is just another rock band of the 2000s trying to make it big. And their image has been drastically damaged with their new wannabe lead singer.
