Lips Of An Angel (Chris Lord A
Hinder Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Honey, why you calling me so late?
It's kind of hard to talk right now
Honey, why you crying? Is everything okay?
I got to whisper 'cause I can't be too loud

Oh well, my girl's in the next room
Sometimes, I wish she was you
I guess we never really moved on

It's really good to hear your voice saying my name
It sounds so sweet
Coming from the lips of an angel
Hearing those words; it makes me weak
And I never want to say goodbye
But girl, you make it hard to be faithful
With the lips of an angel

It's funny that you're calling me tonight
And yes, I dreamt of you too
And does he know you're talking to me?
Will it start a fight?
No, I don't think he has a clue

Oh well, my girl's in the next room
Sometimes, I wish she was you
I guess we never really moved on

It's really good to hear your voice saying my name
It sounds so sweet
Coming from the lips of an angel
Hearing those words; it makes me weak
And I never wanna say goodbye
But girl, you make it hard to be faithful
With the lips of an angel

It's really good to hear your voice saying my name
It sounds so sweet
Coming from the lips of an angel
Hearing those words; it makes me weak
And I never wanna say goodbye

But girl, you make it hard to be faithful
With the lips of an angel
(And I never wanna say goodbye)
But girl, you make it hard to be faithful
With the lips of an angel

Honey, why you calling me so late?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Hinder's song Lips Of An Angel are about a man who is still carrying feelings for his ex-girlfriend, despite being in a current relationship. The song portrays the man feeling torn between his devotion to his current relationship and his lingering love for his former lover. The song begins with the man receiving a late-night call from his ex-girlfriend, and he tries to whisper as he talks to her so as not to wake his current girlfriend who is in the next room. He asks her why she's crying, but doesn't receive an answer to his question. The chorus of the song describes how the man feels hearing his ex-girlfriend's voice saying his name, and how it feels hearing her speak sweetly to him. He feels weak and unable to resist her charms. The song ends with the man admitting that it's difficult to be faithful with his ex-love always on his mind.

The overall theme of the song is that despite being in a relationship, old feelings can still linger and complicate one's emotions. The man in the song is conflicted between his current loyalty to his girlfriend and his strong feelings for his ex. This inner turmoil is portrayed through the man's actions, specifically his late-night conversations with his ex-girlfriend.

The lyrics of the song are open to interpretation and can be interpreted in a number of ways. One interpretation is that the man is cheating on his current girlfriend emotionally. Another interpretation is that he is considering leaving his current relationship for his ex-love. The song was a big hit upon its release in 2006 and has since become a staple of modern rock radio stations.

Hidden meaning: The girl in black and white footage is dead , his
talking to himself on the phone. He puts his mind in a delusional
scenario where he dumped her for another girl, and she's with another
man because its easier for him to think of her death this way.
He can't handle the fact that she's dead.

There are many indications for this:

1) The candles in the video clip seems important, candles usually
symbolize funeral and grief.

2) The name of the song "lips of an angel", people who die are refferred
to as angels by their loved ones, meaning that they died and became
angels.

3) For the people who are wondering " how come the blond girl doesn't hear him
on the phone? ". The most likely scenario : the new girlfriend knows that
his hallucinating, she knows his imagining things. Talking to his dead girlfriend on the phone. She knows that this is not a real phone call. Just notice her looks, she's not angry at him ? she looks jealous of course but not angry ? why is that ? She seems worried about him, she wants to make him forget but she's failing.

4) The picture on his desk, when people die you keep
their pictures right ? Otherwise why would he have this picture ? why keep a
picture of his ex while living with his new girlfriend ? isn't he
afraid that his blond girlfriend will see it ?

5) Song lyrics : " LET HER DIE DON'T WANT TO SAY GOODBYE " he
doesn't want to say goodbye. His ready to feed himself anything to justify her absence. Anything ! He doesn't want to acknowledge that she's dead.
.... his state of mind is so focused to make this fiction real, that he
even got the audience to believe that this a typical love
triangle about unfaithfulness and betrayal. He got you to believe his
dellusions, so it can be as real as possible. but THE TRUTH : SHE'S
DEAD.
"its funny that you're calling me tonight" : its funny because this the
same day she died. It's the anniversary of her death.

This interpretation makes the song more romantic, it's about the love you have for someone who died. He's not unfaithful he's actually very loyal to the girlfriend who died. Just look at his face expression his in severe emotional pain.
