The band is notably influenced both by 90s post-grunge as well as by 80s dirty hard rock and glam metal, with several critics noting their debt to Guns n' Roses. Cut to almost five years later after Winkler met the guys, and Hinder built a healthy regional following. They released an independent album, titled 'Far From Close', which sold out several thousands of copies. The band was the object of an honest-to-goodness bidding war between three different major labels that resulted in its major label debut, titled 'Extreme Behavior', coming out to much commercial success in 2005.
True to the group's origins in Austin Winkler's cover band, Hinder has released several covers of songs that have inspired the band. Examples include "Bed of Roses" (by Bon Jovi), "Born to be Wild" (by Steppenwolf), "Take Me Home Tonight" (by Eddie Money), and "Thunderstruck" (by AC/DC). Their debut album included the huge hit (and perhaps their best known original song) "Lips Of An Angel", and said album has been triple-platinum certified by the RIAA.
Although receiving mixed to negative critical reviews for 'Extreme Behavior', setting up a pattern for them as being critical whipping boys, "Lips of an Angel" was a rock smash. It topped both the Top 40 Pop Radio Chart and the Digital Download Chart, also putting the group on the top of multiple radio, video and digital charts including Yahoo, iTunes, and MSN. Facing near impossible expectations put on them, with rambunctious live performances stoking the flames, Hinder's sophomore album, 'Take It To The Limit', proved somewhat of a commercial disappointment by comparison. However, the group still moved hundreds of thousands of records and featured a strong glam metal-esque sound that many fans loved.
The band was inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame in 2007. After the release of 'Take It To The Limit' in 2008 and 'All American Nightmare' in 2010, though, issues between frontman Winkler and the rest of the band had taken their toll. Finally, on November 20, 2013, it was announced via Loudwire that the band had parted ways with Winkler, the statement saying that there was no animosity towards him but that they just felt it was time to move on. The former Hinder singer has had struggles placing him in rehab before. Saving Abel’s Jared Weeks has often played with the re-jiggered group, and their future is somewhat uncertain though with more studio material promised as of early 2015 (with ex-producer Marshal Dutton being their current singer).

You build your bridges and I'll burn em down
So far away and all alone I roam
I'll take my chances in the here and now
And all you wonder is who's for sale,
well you wont know now and I wont tell
Your always hiding throwing up your hands
[Chorus]
And god only knows all the places ive been
But I love this life that I'm living in
I wont look back to regret yesterday
Were not handed tomorrow so I'll live for today
Another day and yet anothers done
spending a life living with in the past
I'll take the chance before the chance has gone
You never know when it'll be your last
But still you wonder who's for sale,
well you wont know now and I wont tell
Your always hiding throwing up your hands
While heroes ride again
[Chorus]
And god only knows all the places ive been
But I love this life that I'm living in
I wont look back to regret yesterday
Were not handed tomorrow so I'll live for today
We'll know when we run out of time until its all over with
And there'll be no where to run
We'll never say it but we're over out heads
and we're drowning inside with all the things we've said
[Chorus]
And god only knows all the places ive been
But I love this life that I'm living in
I wont look back to regret yesterday
Were not handed tomorrow so I'll live for today
God only knows all the places ive been
But I love this life that I'm living in
I wont look back to regret yesterday
Were not handed tomorrow so I'll live for today
The lyrics of Hinder's song "Live for Today" impart a message of living in the present moment and not dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. The song's protagonist is confident in their ability to pave a path for themselves and does not need the help of others to do so. They do not want to live in the past and miss out on the opportunities that are present in the here and now. The chorus reiterates the importance of living for today and cherishing every moment because tomorrow is never guaranteed.
The lyrics suggest that there are some people who are always looking for someone to sell out, someone to blame, or someone to take responsibility for their problems. They never take action to solve their own issues but are quick to point fingers and hide. However, the singer implores that they will not be a part of that mentality and would rather ride as the hero in their own story.
In the song's final verse, there is a sense of urgency that tomorrow may never come. The singer realizes that time is running out and that one must make the most out of every moment without any regrets. The song ends with the repetition of the chorus, emphasizing the importance of living in the present.

Show me the road and I will find my own
I don't need anyone to guide me, I will pave my own way
You build your bridges and I'll burn em down
I'll destroy any obstacle that comes in my way
So far away and all alone I roam
I'm a lone ranger, wandering endlessly
I'll take my chances in the here and now
I live in the moment and seize opportunities when they arise
And all you wonder is who's for sale,
You're always suspicious of others' motives
well you wont know now and I wont tell
I won't divulge any secrets or betray anyone's trust
Your always hiding throwing up your hands
You're always secretive and evasive
While heroes ride again
I'm a hero who perseveres despite obstacles
And god only knows all the places ive been
I've been to many places and experienced different things
But I love this life that I'm living in
I enjoy and appreciate my life as it is
I wont look back to regret yesterday
I won't dwell on the past and its regrets
Were not handed tomorrow so I'll live for today
Since time is limited, I'll make the most of the present
Another day and yet anothers done
Time passes quickly and each day is fleeting
spending a life living with in the past
Living in the past is a waste of time
I'll take the chance before the chance has gone
I'll take risks when they present themselves, as they may not come around again
You never know when it'll be your last
Life is unpredictable, and we never know when it will end
But still you wonder who's for sale,
You can't help but be suspicious of others
well you wont know now and I wont tell
I value others' privacy and won't betray their trust
Your always hiding throwing up your hands
You're always evasive and secretive
While heroes ride again
I continue to persevere and overcome obstacles
We'll know when we run out of time until its all over with
We'll only realize how short life is when it's too late
And there'll be no where to run
In the end, we can't escape death
We'll never say it but we're over out heads
We're in too deep, but we won't admit it
and we're drowning inside with all the things we've said
Our past words and actions keep haunting us, resulting in mental turmoil
And god only knows all the places ive been
I've had a diverse and rich life experience
But I love this life that I'm living in
I'm grateful for and content with the life I have
I wont look back to regret yesterday
I won't rue past decisions and actions
Were not handed tomorrow so I'll live for today
Since life can be short and unpredictable, I focus on making the most of today
