The band is notably influenced both by 90s post-grunge as well as by 80s dirty hard rock and glam metal, with several critics noting their debt to Guns n' Roses. Cut to almost five years later after Winkler met the guys, and Hinder built a healthy regional following. They released an independent album, titled 'Far From Close', which sold out several thousands of copies. The band was the object of an honest-to-goodness bidding war between three different major labels that resulted in its major label debut, titled 'Extreme Behavior', coming out to much commercial success in 2005.
True to the group's origins in Austin Winkler's cover band, Hinder has released several covers of songs that have inspired the band. Examples include "Bed of Roses" (by Bon Jovi), "Born to be Wild" (by Steppenwolf), "Take Me Home Tonight" (by Eddie Money), and "Thunderstruck" (by AC/DC). Their debut album included the huge hit (and perhaps their best known original song) "Lips Of An Angel", and said album has been triple-platinum certified by the RIAA.
Although receiving mixed to negative critical reviews for 'Extreme Behavior', setting up a pattern for them as being critical whipping boys, "Lips of an Angel" was a rock smash. It topped both the Top 40 Pop Radio Chart and the Digital Download Chart, also putting the group on the top of multiple radio, video and digital charts including Yahoo, iTunes, and MSN. Facing near impossible expectations put on them, with rambunctious live performances stoking the flames, Hinder's sophomore album, 'Take It To The Limit', proved somewhat of a commercial disappointment by comparison. However, the group still moved hundreds of thousands of records and featured a strong glam metal-esque sound that many fans loved.
The band was inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame in 2007. After the release of 'Take It To The Limit' in 2008 and 'All American Nightmare' in 2010, though, issues between frontman Winkler and the rest of the band had taken their toll. Finally, on November 20, 2013, it was announced via Loudwire that the band had parted ways with Winkler, the statement saying that there was no animosity towards him but that they just felt it was time to move on. The former Hinder singer has had struggles placing him in rehab before. Saving Abel’s Jared Weeks has often played with the re-jiggered group, and their future is somewhat uncertain though with more studio material promised as of early 2015 (with ex-producer Marshal Dutton being their current singer).

Nothin Good About Goodbye
Hinder Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
'Cause I thought that this was over
But then you called to say
You forgot that broach of your mother's
And every time I try to cut the cord
You come crawling back with some excuse
You forgot something
There's nothing good about goodbye
I could swear I saw you cry
Always knew you'd wind up falling, falling harder
Nothing good about goodbye
Just say goodbye
Rolled up my sleeves today
'Cause I thought that this had ended
But then you called again
To tell me how you're gonna blow my best friend
And every time I try to cut the cord
You come crawling back with some excuse
You forgot something
There's nothing good about goodbye
I can swear I saw you cry
Always knew you'd wind up falling, falling harder
Every story has two sides
In the he-said-she-said fight
But you'll always wind up falling, falling harder
Nothing good about goodbye
Just say goodbye
Falling, falling harder
You're falling apart
Falling, falling harder
You're falling apart
Falling, falling harder
You're falling apart
Falling, falling harder
There's nothing good about goodbye
I can swear I saw you cry
I always knew you'd wind up falling, falling harder
Every story has two sides
In the he-said-she-said fight
She'll always wind up falling, falling harder
Nothing good about goodbye
Just say goodbye
There's nothing good about goodbye
Just say goodbye
Falling, falling harder
You're falling apart
Falling, falling harder
You're falling apart
Falling, falling harder
You're falling apart
Falling, falling harder
You're falling apart
Falling, falling harder
You're falling apart
Falling, falling harder
You're falling apart
Falling, falling harder
You're falling apart
The lyrics of "Nothin Good About Goodbye" by Hinder explore the common theme of a toxic relationship that keeps pulling the two individuals towards each other despite the pain and suffering they cause each other. The song is about a person who has tried to end a relationship several times, but her partner keeps coming back with flimsy excuses, refusing to let go.
The singer is frustrated and exhausted, as he has rolled up his sleeves to end his involvement in this toxic relationship. He thought it was finally over, but then he gets a call from his partner, who forgot her mother's brooch. The singer tries to cut the cord, but his partner keeps crawling back, revealing that she is planning to blow his best friend.
The lyrics describe how the singer saw the signs of them winding up falling harder every time they said goodbye and the inevitability of the relationship falling apart. Even though he has seen her cry before, he is at a loss to end their toxic cycle, which is leading to inevitable consequences. In the end, the lyrics of the chorus reveal that there is nothing good about goodbyes, and he needs to say goodbye.
Overall, the song is about recognizing the patterns of a toxic relationship and finding the strength to end it. No matter how many times they say goodbye or how much they try to separate from each other, the consequences of the relationship keep pulling them back together, and the cycle continues.

Rolled up my sleeves today
I was ready to move on and start anew
'Cause I thought that this was over
I believed the relationship had been concluded
But then you called to say
But then you contacted me unexpectedly
You forgot that broach of your mother's
To retrieve an insignificant article of your mother's
And every time I try to cut the cord
And whenever I attempt to end things completely
You come crawling back with some excuse
You always return with a flimsy reason
There's nothing good about goodbye
Parting ways is always painful
I could swear I saw you cry
I'm confident I witnessed you shed tears
Always knew you'd wind up falling, falling harder
I knew you would suffer even more
Nothing good about goodbye
It's awful to say goodbye
Just say goodbye
Just break it off and leave
To tell me how you're gonna blow my best friend
To inform me of your intentions for my closest companion
Every story has two sides
There are always different versions of the same narrative
In the he-said-she-said fight
In the never-ending quarrel
But you'll always wind up falling, falling harder
You will inevitably be the one to suffer more
Falling, falling harder
Your life is spiraling out of control
You're falling apart
You're breaking down
There's nothing good about goodbye
It's always painful to end a relationship
I can swear I saw you cry
I'm positive I saw you weeping
Every story has two sides
Different perspectives can alter the truth
She'll always wind up falling, falling harder
In the end, you will suffer even more
Just say goodbye
Just end it and move on
Falling, falling harder
Your life is unraveling
You're falling apart
You're breaking down

Listening to this brings nostalgia, it's refreshing listening to this band's music right now in 2023.

I absolutely love this song. I think it's one of the very few perfect songs, up there with Drive by Incubus, Little Things by Bush, Dust in the Wind by Kansas, or Somebody That I Used to Know by Gotye.
All the same, the part where he sings, '...but then you called today, to tell me how you're gonna BLOW my best friend...' makes me chuckle every time.
This is still my all-time favorite break-up song, after one-too-many flings with wild, frothy women.
