Little Grace
Hippo Campus Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

i cannot tell what you claim to see
that your heart is black and mine is so green
jealousy is men, someday you'll see
you know

you cry out, Eliza, you scream and you moan
you're sick of this joyride you want to find home
adulthood has found you scared and alone
talk to me

art school girl with ignorant bliss
peace, weed, cocaine, and mushrooms and shit
will bring peace on earth, someday you'll see it
talk to me

they're just pictures inside of your head
they're just pictures trapped inside of your head

save a little grace for us

Overall Meaning

In Hippo Campus's song Little Grace, there is a comparison between the singer and the person they address, who seems to have a dark and envious personality, while the singer's heart is green, which may indicate innocence, youth, and a desire for growth. The chorus encourages this person to talk to the singer, suggesting a readiness to listen, understand and help. Another character, Eliza, is introduced in the second verse, who is tired of superficial pleasures and wants to find a deeper meaning in life, but she is also scared and alone. The singer again offers to talk to her and tells her that art, drugs, and peace will someday bring peace on earth.

The song explores several themes that are relevant to young people, including the fear and uncertainty of growing up, the search for identity and meaning, the allure of instant gratification, and the importance of empathy and connection with others.

The use of colors to describe emotions and personalities is a common literary device that invokes strong sensory associations, such as black for darkness, sadness, and negativity, and green for growth, hope, and freshness. The lyrics also contain several religious and philosophical references, such as the idea of redemption through grace, the Buddhist practice of mindfulness, and the Beat Generation's countercultural values.

I love this video. they're showing how people think that Jake and Zach are the only "real members," and how untrue that is. it shows how each member is important, not only the vocalists, and that they're all being themselves

So I think this music video is about destroying the symbol of what people think about you. Because there's two sides of yourself, the side that you know and the side that other people know. In the video the real parts (the parts we see of ourselves) is the actually guys from the bands, and the fruits and vegetables are the sides that other people see. (they're fruits and vegetables because they're bad symbols. the fruit doesn't look much like the actually guys because other people's impressions of ourselves doesn't see the whole picture) And in the music video they're smashing the fruits and vegetables because they're tired of what people think of them and they just want to be themselves. And at the end they're free and running around
