More Than A Feeling
Hit the Lights Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I looked out this morning and the sun was gone
Turned on some music to start my day
I lost myself in a familiar song
I closed my eyes and I slipped away

It's more than a feeling
(More than a feeling)
When I hear that old song they used to play
(More than a feeling)
I'll be a dreaming
(More than a feeling)
'Til I see Marianne walk away
I see my Marianne walkin' away

So many people have come and gone
Their faces fade as the years go by
Yet I still recall as I wander on
As clear as the sun in the summer sky

It's more than a feeling
(More than a feeling)
When I hear that old song they used to play
(More than a feeling)
I'll be a dreaming
(More than a feeling)
'Til I see Marianne walk away
I see my Marianne walkin' away

When I'm tired and thinking cold
I hide in my music, forget the day
And dream of a girl I used to know
I closed my eyes and she slipped away
She slipped away

It's more than a feeling
(More than a feeling)
When I hear that old song they used to play
(More than a feeling)
I'll be a dreaming

(More than a feeling)
'Til I see Marianne walk away

Overall Meaning

"More Than A Feeling" by Hit the Lights features lyrics that express the powerful emotions that music can evoke in a person. The song starts with the singer looking out and realizing that the sun is gone. He then proceeds to turn on some music to start his day, eventually losing himself in a familiar song. As he closes his eyes, he "slips away" into his own world, experiencing the emotions and memories that the music brings up.

The singer's experiences highlight the idea that music isn't just a collection of sounds, but rather something that can transport a person to a different place and time, both physically and emotionally. The lyrics mention Marianne, who is likely someone from the singer's past who has left his life. However, through the power of the music, he feels her presence in his memories and dreams.

The chorus repeats the phrase "more than a feeling," highlighting the visceral and emotional experience that the singer is having. The music is providing him with an experience that is greater than any one specific emotion or feeling, but rather a full sensation that is impossible to fully articulate.

Justin van Zuilekom

I love this album, it has so many good songs like crazy train, caught up in you and now more than a feeling.

Brianna Potter

this is great

SleepingWithPanic!AtTheDisco

This cover is good but it's just too god damn short. I mean the original is like 3 and a half minutes long probably even four mins long but it seems like HTL's just sped thru it like no tomorrow. Nonetheless it IS a great cover. I think Boston would be proud of these boys.

Sav 💕

Sometimes I search up the originals because I don't recognize them, but I didn't recognize this song at all. I searched it up and thought I had the wrong song because it's so different.

Zee The G Shep

Honestly I like this one more than the original. Like this one brought the original back to life

SleepingWithPanic!AtTheDisco

Liam

This is better than the original. Fight me.

ACE Music

Yeah, nowhere near the original but decent effort. At least they didn't throw a bunch of screaming and stuck to the original notes.

ShadowofATheory
