Hogjaw was formed in late 2006 through the power of jamming…” when we realized what we had, it just snowballed.” Everyone in the band is standing friends from High School and with one common goal, rockin, it became easy for the music to develop. With years of playing in label bands, touring afar, and playing beat-up acoustic guitars in and around the hills, these guys find their talents on a way of their own. It is spoken through the songs…and with support from everyone surrounding Hogjaw….things couldn’t be better for the group!

I got myself into a mess
These last few months it seems
Ain’t exactly what I mean
There comes a time when feelings die
And the only thing left is a friend
So we part ways, on our own
Pain drifts as time will mend
(Chorus 1)
And I don’t want to lead you around
truth be told I done lead myself
I done enough you’re wearin’ the frown
As I put you up high on the shelf
Days go by I realize just what it is we done
You say I try to hide, turn my tail and run
that’s not it, you never made your stand
Not even when I stood and held your hand
(Chorus 2)
I don’t want to lead you around
You never tried to be yourself
Too many times, you laid down and died
In the end it’s the hand you dealt
Here we are, the fog rolled right in
You say I quit and let you go
That may be true, but I still love you
Why didn’t you step up and show
(Chorus 3)
And I remember yesterday
The thought of us and your smiling face
If the road remained unchanged
Maybe we’d be in a different place
The lyrics to Hogjaw’s song “The Fog” tell a story of a relationship gone awry. The singer admits that he has made mistakes in the relationship, but that his partner has also failed to be true to themselves and make their feelings clear. Despite their troubles, the singer still loves their partner and wishes things could have been different. The chorus repeats a sentiment of the singer not wanting to lead their partner around, and the idea that both individuals in the relationship have played a role in their current situation.
The first verse introduces the idea that the singer has caused problems in the relationship, but that they did not intentionally mean to hurt their partner. The second verse addresses their partner’s lack of communication, stating that they “never made your stand” and that they ultimately “laid down and died” in the relationship. The final verse sees the singer expressing their love for their partner despite the issues they have faced, and wishing that things could be different.

I got myself into a mess
I have created a complicated situation for myself
These last few months it seems
Recently, for some time now
The words I said and what I did
My actions and speech
Ain’t exactly what I mean
Do not express my true intentions
There comes a time when feelings die
Emotions fade away sometimes
And the only thing left is a friend
What remains is friendship
So we part ways, on our own
We separate as individuals
Pain drifts as time will mend
Healing power of time lessens the hurt
And I don’t want to lead you around
I don’t want to manipulate you
truth be told I done lead myself
To be honest, I have misguided myself
I done enough you’re wearin’ the frown
I have caused enough misery for you to feel unhappy
As I put you up high on the shelf
I have elevated you to an unrealistic level
Days go by I realize just what it is we done
As time passes, I understand what we have done wrong
You say I try to hide, turn my tail and run
You accuse me of being evasive and running away
that’s not it, you never made your stand
It's not like that, you never took a clear position
Not even when I stood and held your hand
Not even when I offered support and care
I don’t want to lead you around
I don't want to control you
You never tried to be yourself
You never dared to express your true self
Too many times, you laid down and died
You have given up too many times
In the end it’s the hand you dealt
Ultimately, you are responsible for your life
Here we are, the fog rolled right in
We are now in a murky situation
You say I quit and let you go
You accuse me of stopping caring about you and leaving you
That may be true, but I still love you
That might be accurate, but I still have affection for you
Why didn’t you step up and show
Why didn't you take a stand and demonstrate
And I remember yesterday
I recall the past
The thought of us and your smiling face
The image of us and your happy expression
If the road remained unchanged
If we had stayed on the same path
Maybe we’d be in a different place
Perhaps we would be in a different situation now
