His latest album "Tendresse" was released in 2000. In 2003 Ekwalla became more and more frustrated by the lack of protection against piracy in Cameroon and became a business man. But since his real passion was music he never gave up music and in 2008 he was working on a new album. Unfortunately he was forced to stop this work because of health problems.
After a two weeks stay in the Lanquintine Hospital in Douala he died on the 23th of October 2008. That day Cameroon lost a great singer and composer

The song "Vérité" by Hoigen Ekwalla is a beautiful, soulful song that expresses the singer's desire for the truth and the importance of love in our lives. The song features a mix of African and Western music styles, and the lyrics are mostly in Duala, a language spoken in Cameroon. The song starts with the singer proclaiming "Vérité" (truth) repeatedly, followed by a phrase that says "I don't understand what people are saying, but I'm looking for the truth." The singer says that he wants to understand the truth, and he's looking for someone who can show it to him.
The next verse talks about the singer's search for love. He says that he's searching for love, but it's not easy to find. He wonders where love has gone and why it's so hard to find. The chorus repeats the phrase "Vérité muléma mwam," which means "truth always triumphs." The singer is hopeful that he'll find the truth and love eventually, but he knows that it won't be easy. The song ends with the singer once again repeating the phrase "Vérité muléma mwam" and asking where love has gone.
Overall, "Vérité" is a beautiful song that speaks to the human desire for truth and love. The singer's honesty and vulnerability are evident throughout the song, and the mix of African and Western music styles adds to the emotional impact of the lyrics.
