1) Holger is an indie rock band from São Paulo, Brazil. The band started out as a musical project called That’s All Folks in which friends from different bands like Efeito Colateral and Cagedream got together for jam sessions melding folk, country, indiepop and neofolk music. After recording over 30 songs and releasing 5 EPs online the guys decided to turn the project into a permanent band, Holger, re-working several songs by That’s All Folks and recording new material with influences from bands like I’m from Barcelona, Pavement, New Order, Flaming Lips and Broken Social Scene. In 2008, after many months of rehearsal, Holger emerged from the studio to promote their songs and play a series of gigs. In 2009 they played SXSW. The band has also opened for No Age and Matt & Kim in São Paulo. All their songs are in English.

Let'em Shine Below
Holger Lyrics

With mirrors to reflect the sun
They didn't bother observing the Shabbat
All they wanted was to have some fun
For standing on the brink and looking down upon the things that have been put aside
It's easy to infer that life should be a bit more bright
Floating into outer space
Watching the sun that's shinning
On the mirrors down there below
'coz you know sometimes the prettiest things can come from places you wouldn't even recognize
just like the light from schoolgirls coming from inside
When one thinks about surrender
Just take a while to remember
Oh! That we can stand up
but if I could get much higher
than the people living on my land
I could sleep with all of the women
And rob most of the banks
But such inconsequence can make you take a change
And perhaps even decide to take those mirrors down and let the light shine from the inside
Let'em shine below
Let'em shine below
When one thinks about surrender
Just take a while to remember
Oh! That we can stand up
And I cannot know how the things will flow
And I cannot know where this path will go
And I cannot show, though it is my goal
To let it glow
Love is made of gold
The song Let'em Shine Below by Holger is a reflection on life and how we approach it. The song begins with an imaginative description of people who have decided to cover their houses with mirrors to reflect the sun. This depicts a yearning to find fun and excitement in life, even if it may come at the expense of deeply held values of the Jewish Shabbat. However, the song portrays a contrasting perspective as it describes floating into outer space and watching the sun shining on the mirrors from a distance. From this vantage point, the reflections from the mirrors look like the light of schoolgirls coming from the inside. This shift in perspective highlights a larger theme of the song that life's beauty can be found in unexpected places.
The lyrics continue to discuss the concept of surrender in life. It urges the listener to take a moment to remember that they have the power to stand up and take control of their life. The singer does not know how the flow of his path will go or where it will lead him, but he acknowledges that his goal is to let love glow. The final line stating "Love is made of gold" could be interpreted to mean that love is at the core of our existence and that it's worth more than any material possession.
