When I'm Gone
Holloway Brenda Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Whose shoulder are you gonna cry on
What are you gonna do on the day
When I turn my head and just walk away
What are you gonna say to your friends
When the talk around town begins
Will you tell them how you treated me bad
'Cause you make some people
Think that you love me a lot
But they just don't know you
And what they see isn't what we've got
We're happy in the public eye
They think you're such a wonderful guy
But they don't know how much you've lied
And they don't know how much I've cried
You're a real Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde
Oh, yeah
You make a pass at
Every girl that you see
Then when they hurt you
You come running and crying to me
I comfort you whenever you're low
And you don't have a place you can go
You put your head on my shoulder to cry
And then you turn around and tell me a lie
And I just can't take it
I've gotta make it now
What are you gonna do when I'm gone
And what are you gonna do when I'm gone
What are you gonna do when I'm gone
What are you gonna do when I'm gone
The lyrics of "When I'm Gone" by Holloway Brenda is a poignant tale of a relationship gone sour. The singer is asking her partner what he is going to do when she leaves, who he's going to lean on, and what he's going to say to his friends. She accuses him of being two-faced and pretending to be a devoted lover in public. The lyrics are cryptic, but it appears that the singer is tired of this double standard and wants out of the relationship.
The lyrics are emotionally charged, and Holloway Brenda delivers them with passion and vulnerability. The opening lines set the tone for the song's powerful message by asking a profound question that many people ponder when they contemplate leaving a romantic relationship. The singer's suspicion and distrust of her partner's intentions are palpable in the lyrics, and she holds nothing back in her criticism of his behavior.
Throughout the song, the singer's frustration with her partner's behavior grows, painting a picture of an unhealthy relationship. The last few lines of the song are a declaration of her need to break free from the relationship and move on. The lyrics of "When I'm Gone" are heartfelt, and the song's message is universal, making it a relatable and affecting tune for anyone who has experienced the pain of a broken relationship.

One of Motown‘s best and most underrated female singers. Wonderful voice.💛
@edwinjones1000
The word was that she wouldn't give Berry Gordy sex, so she was sent back to Cali and her songs were not promoted. I am 71 years old. Music was a small industry. Everybody knew what was going on behind the scenes.
@devinrivers5808
@@edwinjones1000Yeah, I heard about that too..this lady has self respect
@italoman9
Damn, her voice is like getting the energy of laying in the sun on a warm, summery day -- full of mellowness and electricity. What a talented artist.
