Valance's first single as a recording artist was a cover of Turkish singer Tarkan's "Kiss Kiss" (composed by Turkish "Diva" Sezen Aksu), released in 2002. The song debuted at No. 1 in both the Australian Recording Industry Association and UK Singles Charts charts in April/May 2002. The director's cut version of the music video was notable in that Valance appeared to be dancing naked. She revealed that she was topless but also wearing flesh-coloured underwear. The footage was then digitally retouched adding strategically placed lighting effects. The song was nominated for four ARIA Music Awards.
Valance's next single, "Down Boy" peaked at #2 in the UK and at #3 in Australia. Her début album, Footprints, was released on 14 October 2002. It debuted and peaked at #9 in the UK and #15 in Australia. The album's third and final single "Naughty Girl" peaked at #3 in Australia and at No. 16 in the UK. In 2003, the first single "State of Mind" from Valance's second album of the same name debuted and peaked at #8 in the UK and at #14 in Australia, but the album did not get into the top 50 of either country.
In 2004, Valance returned to acting, this time in the United States, appearing in episodes of the television series CSI: Miami, Entourage. In 2005, she appeared in an episode of CSI: NY. She then guest-starred in Prison Break, in 2006, as Nika Volek - as Michael Scofield's "wife", a role which she continued to portray in the show's second season.
In 2006, Valance appeared in the National Lampoon comedy Pledge This!, alongside American socialite Paris Hilton. The same year, she was in DOA: Dead or Alive, an adaptation of the popular video game Dead or Alive, where she played Christie. In 2007, she appeared in the TV series Shark and Moonlight. In 2008, she had a role in the film Taken alongside Liam Neeson and Famke Janssen, and appeared in an episode of the The CW series Valentine. In 2009, Valance played Brenda Snow for the video game Command & Conquer Red Alert 3: Uprising. She is also set to appear as Angela in the movie Red Herring and as Sally in the upcoming thriller titled Luster. Valance appeared with British electro-pop newcomer Frankmusik in the video for his single "Confusion Girl", which was released on 3 August 2009. Holly also was the face of 1800Reverse and appeared in many of the companies TV commercials.

Why don't you give me some respect?
I want to strong, sensitive guy
I want him brow, but ever so shy
A gentleman with dignity
If you don't get this, it ain't you
I want to boy to make me feel fine
Gotta give as good as you get
If you want to start with it
You gotta be appealing
You gotta do it right
If you can't say you love me
We can't unite
Why are you searching for another lover?
Why don't you give me some respect?
When will we just learn to like each other?
Why don't we learn how to connect?
I want to guy in which to confide
There to tell my secrets and lies
I want to boy who's genuine too
If it ain't your style then it ain't you
I never meant to be so tough
But I guess I'm gonna find the perfect love
Listen to the lines I sing
Or I won't give you anything
You gotta be appealing
You gotta do it right
If you can't say you love me
We can't unite
Why are you searching for another lover?
Why don't you give me some respect?
When will we just learn to like each other?
Why don't we learn how to connect?
Slow it down
Leave the body and the mind
Slow it down
Come and see what you find
(Ooh)
Slow it down
(Ooh)
Leave the body and the mind
(Ooh)
Slow it down
(Ooh)
Come on and see what you find
You gotta be appealing
You gotta do it right
If you can't say you love me
We can't unite
Why are you searching for another lover?
Why don't you give me some respect?
When will we just learn to like each other?
Why don't we learn how to connect?
"Holly Valance's song Connect talks about the importance of finding a partner who can connect with you on an emotional and intellectual level. The first verse starts with a rhetorical question, where Holly is questioning her partner's behaviour of searching for another lover when she wants him to give her respect. The chorus emphasizes the need for a deeper level of understanding and connection between two partners. Holly's desire for a strong and sensitive partner who is also a gentleman and has dignity is mentioned in the next verse. She wants a partner who can make her feel special with a little look in his eye and can give as good as he gets. Holly emphasizes that to be with her, the guy needs to be appealing and do things right; otherwise, they can't unite.
In the next section, Holly sings about the kind of guy she wants to confide in, someone she can share her secrets and lies with, who is genuine at heart. She mentions that being tough was never her intention but finding a perfect love is. The bridge section starts with Holly asking to slow things down and leave behind the body and mind to see what they find. The final chorus emphasizes the need to learn how to connect and how it is needed to come together in a relationship.
