Obvious?
Hollyn Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I just want to talk to ya
But I know you're in a, in a pretty rough place
And I just wanna walk with ya
But I always wanna, wanna give you your space

I know where you're standing
I can't help you, if you don't let your walls fall down
Let your walls fall down (down, down, down, down)

Isn't it obvious?
Take off your shades, look me in the face
Isn't it obvious?
Don't you know what you're missing?
Isn't it obvious?
Ob-obvious

I can feel it, when you talk to me
Behind the walls you built
I feel your pain, this ain't a game
But this ain't the end of the world

I can't help you, if you don't let your walls fall down
Just let those walls fall down

You're running around in circles
Yeah, you're running around in circles
I don't think this is working

Isn't it obvious?
Take off your shades, look me in the face, hmm
Isn't it obvious?
Let's make it plain, there ain't no shame here
Isn't it obvious?
Just give me a minute, I wanna listen
Isn't it obvious?
Don't you know what you're missing?
Isn't it obvious?

Ob-obvious
Isn't it obvious?
Ob-obvious

I know that it's hard
What you're doing to yourself
You're locked in these bars
But these prison walls are falling
I'm standing arms wide open
I'm standing waiting for ya
Come running (running, running)
You can be free, if you want to

But you keep running around in circles
Yeah, you're running around in circles
I don't think this is working

Isn't it obvious?
Ob-obvious
Isn't it obvious?
Lose the disguise, look me in the eyes
Ob-obvious
Let's make it plain, there ain't no shame
Isn't it obvious?
Just give me a minute, I want to listen
Ob-obvious

Don't you know what you're missing?
Can you see it in the distance?
If you'd turn around, you would see
Don't you know what you're missing?
Can you see it in the distance?

Don't you know what you're missing?
If you'd turn around you would see

Don't you know what you're missing?
Can you see it in the distance?

Overall Meaning

In Hollyn's song "Obvious," the singer expresses her desire to help someone she cares about who is struggling emotionally and is guarded behind walls. Hollyn tries to communicate with the person but struggles to break through their defenses to make them comfortable enough to share their struggles. She encourages the person to let their walls down so that they are open to receiving the help they need. Hollyn tries to convey to this person that what they are missing is all too obvious to others and that they should take off their metaphorical “shades” and look someone in the face to get the help they need.

Hollyn tries to reassure the person that the world is not over and that their battles can be overcome with a little help from someone they trust. She consistently tries to bring out her message of hope through the song. Her powerful statements in the chorus, such as “let's make it plain, there ain't no shame here,” reinforces her message of nonjudgmental support, urging the person to open up.

"I can't help you if you don't let your walls fall down.."
Break down those walls if you want real friendship to happen. Real
friends may be scarce but they do exist. There are people who won't
judge you down but would love you whole. The more they know about your
downfall, the more they'd be committed to love on you, pray for you and
pour out their hearts on you to help you get through.. They'd do that
with you as they'd want it done unto them - just as Jesus did that for
them too!

Oh Hollyn, you speak the same words my heart speaks these days.. I'm not insane after all
