The band originated in 2005 from a song titled "The Kids" that Aron Erlichman (Deuce) and Jorel Decker (J-Dog) posted on the band's MySpace profile to positive reviews, leading them to form the group Hollywood Undead with their friends "Shady" Jeff Philips, George Ragan (Johnny 3 Tears), Jordon Terrell (Charlie Scene), Dylan Alvarez (Funny Man), and Matthew St. Claire (Da Kurlzz). In an interview with Shave magazine, J-Dog explained that when forming the band "Whoever was in the room at the time and played an instrument was in the band."
The band only took one year working on their debut album, Swan Songs. The other two years were spent looking for a company that wouldn't try to censor the album. Millions tend to crawl but only those who choose can make it through this all,
Only few can sing like lions 'cause we sing until we're gone
And we've got each others backs until we're back where we belong,
A woman held my shield and through the battle we did wrong,
A man who taught me wisdom through the static we recall,
And maybe when we' re gone our names will echo through the stars,
Every start's got it's ending even when we've learned to rise above it all,
These lies are leading me astray
Its too much for me to stay
I don't wanna live this destiny
It goes on endlessly
I see you so please stay strong
I'll sing you one last song
And then I'm gone
I don't wanna live this destiny
It goes on endlessly
And we once also had a story too
You can see that good men only come in few.
Even in our greatest moments we may win or we may lose
Every song's got it's rules, you've got to learn to make it through
Maybe one day we can choose how it feels to be a woman or a man
Without rules but buried underneath there's a picture glued
So when my body burns in ashes only sing the truth
Let these words strengthen all your views
Because these words were meant for you
These lies are leading me astray
Its too much for me to stay
I don't wanna live this destiny
It goes on endlessly
I see you so please stay strong
I'll sing you one last song
And then I'm gone
I don't wanna live this destiny
It goes on endlessly
An' now I'm floatin' right above my coffin as it closes I look down
I see sigh as she's cryin on my moma's shoulder
I look up into the sky as the gates to heaven open somethin's wrong
Is this destiny or am I goin' home,
What will happen to my soul will I come back I don't know,
Will you meet me when its over let me know,
You can meet me here in heaven don't you ever let me go
This love this hate is burning me away
These lies are leading me astray
Its too much for me to stay
I don't wanna live this destiny
It goes on endlessly
I see you so please stay strong
I'll sing you one last song
And then I'm gone
I don't wanna live this destiny
It goes on endlessly
These lies are leading me astray
Its too much for me to stay
I don't wanna live this destiny
It goes on endlessly
I see you so please stay strong
I'll sing you one last song
And then I'm gone
I don't wanna live this destiny
It goes on endlessly
This love this hate is burning me away
This love this hate is burning me away
The lyrics of Hollywood Undead's song "This Love This Hate" describe a struggle within oneself and with external forces. The first couple of lines suggest that in times of need, only a few can truly see what's wrong and have the capability to make it through difficult situations. The song emphasizes on the idea of people having each other's backs and that only a handful of them can be compared to lions when it comes to singing since they keep going until they exhaust themselves. The lyrics then shift towards a recollection of the people whom the singer met in his/her lifetime, such as a woman who held his/her shield in a battle and a man who taught the singer wisdom through static. The singer expects that his/her name will echo through the stars after his/her death, and every beginning comes with an ending, similarly every human has to learn to rise above the difficulties. The singer then claims that they don't want to live their current life filled with lies and their destiny is endless, expressing their frustrations with the world. The song is a cry for hope and strength, as the singer asks the audience to stay strong and then says that this love this hate is burning him/her away.
The lyrics suggest that the singer is facing an internal struggle and is trying to find their place in the world. They highlight that they desire freedom from societal norms and hope for a future where people are not governed by rules. The lyrics also suggest that death is an inevitability, and that one should not waste time dwelling on their mortality but instead live in the moment. The song shows that the singer is introspective and reflective, and is trying to find a way to overcome the obstacles in their life. The lyrics also emphasize the importance of human connection and how people help each other during difficult times.
