I'll be home for Christmas
You can plan on me
Please have snow and mistletoe
And presents on the tree

Christmas Eve will find me
Where the love light gleams
I'll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams

I'll be home for Christmas
You can plan on me
Please have snow and mistletoe
And presents on the tree

Christmas Eve'll find me
Where the love light gleams

I'll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams

Overall Meaning

The classic Christmas song "I'll Be Home for Christmas" performed by Home Free is a heartfelt tune that conjures up feelings of warmth and nostalgia. The lyrics follow a soldier or traveler who is away from home during the holidays and is longing to be reunited with his loved ones. The song promises that, despite the distance and uncertainty of the present, the singer will make it home for Christmas. The opening line, "I'll be home for Christmas, you can plan on me" sets the tone for the song and signals to the family back home that the singer will do their best to make it back for the holidays.

The second stanza paints an idyllic winter scene with snow, mistletoe, and presents under the tree. These symbols of Christmas tradition evoke a sense of longing for the singer, who is far from home, and highlight the stark contrast between where he is and where he wants to be. The final stanza is the most poignant, with the singer admitting that he may not make it home for Christmas but will dream of it nonetheless. "If only in my dreams" is a quiet, wistful end to the song that speaks to the idea that sometimes just the thought of home can bring comfort and joy.

Overall, Home Free's version of "I'll Be Home for Christmas" is a tender rendition that captures the spirit of the original song. The lyrics are simple yet impactful and the harmonies of the group add an additional layer of emotion to the piece. It's a timeless classic that continues to resonate with listeners year after year.

I'm an old Nam vet (Is there any other kind?) and have lived too many Christmastimes away from home. Thought I was immune to the emotion by now but when I saw this this I just broke down and cried. Not for us lucky ones who made it but for the women, men and famioy members of our armed forces who will never have another Christman together.
Gentlemen of Home Free - thank you from the bottom of my heart. Another outstnding performance and video. You kept the focus on the soldiers and their families rather than home Free.

I loved this!

Shorty, this Air Force Vet understood what you meant by "is there any other kind". And, a heart felt Thank You for your service. You, and your buddies, didn't get the Welcome Homes you deserved. Fortunately, for the latest batch of combat veterans, the public (for the most part) has learned to separate "the war" from "the troops". Merry Christmas, Sir, to you and yours!
